Finally bought a Kimber, now what..?

It is a compact stainless carry. In 250 rounds, I have had four failures (the kind where the spent case is not ejected fully; a stovepipe maybe?) and the slide stop lever was activated twice midway through the mag. That may have been operator error though. I have two mags for it: the original one and a Wilson Combat one. Is this normal until it is worn in??? How many rounds is "worn in?" Also the rear sight came loose and fell out on the 90th round. The set screw was never tightened. I called Kimber and they said the sight should be tight even without the set screw and I should send it to them. Whats the deal????

Yours may have minor teething problems, or, as you suggest operator error. My stainles compact has been flawless, but my Ultra Carry is sensitive to limp-wristing (resulting in incomplete ejections), and I was hitting the slide stop with my thumb (I'm prety new to 1911's). I'd put another 100-150 rnds thru taking care to keep a firm grip and keep your thumb down and see if the problems go away. The sight thing is Kimber's fault, though, and you can either send it back or re-zero the sights and put a dab Locktight (blue) on 'er. Good luck M2

Send it back to Kimber and let them fix the sight. They made the problem, they can correct it. I have a stainless 1911 classic and experience the same problems when I used ammo with aluminum casing. I also have a problem with feeding SWC's. 1500 rounds of ball ammo with brass casing====NO misfeeds. SWC's with brass casing=====at least one misfeed per clip. Ball ammo with aluminum casing=====lots of misfeeds.

All things considered, Kimber make an outstanding firearm.

I've owned four Kimbers. Three out of the four were nothing but trouble. I now carry a Springfield. I do not buy Kimbers anymore.
I got tired of sending them back to the shop.
Others on this forum have had really great experiences with their Kimbers. I was not one of those people. I got tired of paying those prices and carrying a nine or a 38spl. while my Kimber was being worked on. I'd suggest sending it back to Kimber at least once detailing ALL the problems you are having with it(I doubt that you are causing these problems)If they don't fix it the first time I would seriously consider getting rid of it, that is if this is to be a carry piece.
