Field Stripping a Ruger 22/45

I just bought a brand-spanking-new stainless 22/45 for my wife. (Hey, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :D )

I have heard people bitch and complain about field stripping these weapons, particularly with regards to reinstalling the bolt stop/mainspring housing assembly. What on earth are they talking about? Diassembly & reassembly is about as easy as it gets; the only trick is to pointing the muzzle up or down at the right stages in the reassembly. After the second time, it was second nature and I was able to do it with my eyes closed (and that's with "virginal" factory tight parts.)

Fit and finish appears excellent except for a tiny, tiny nick/dimple on the bull barrel face at teh edge of the crown. Hopefully that won't affect accuracy.

I can't wait to get it to the range to try out this new gun. Uhh...I mean I can't wait to take my wife to the range so she can try out her new gun. ;)

Congrats on your new purchase. I have 2 22/45s and they are fun and cheap to shoot. If your into tinkering stuff like me, I recommend taking a look at some of the items here = http://www.ontargetguns.com

I've completely changed all the internals to Volquartsen parts on mine and it shoots like a dream...

You must have special mechanical skills, I never even tried to field strip it.

Well, I did, but gave up around 5000rds ago. No problems since!

Mine has a machine burr on the recoil spring assembly yoke. If I install the recoil spring assembly with the burr against the slide, the pin that holds the barrel assembly to the frame simply will not pass all the way through as it should. It was pretty frustrating until I done figured out what was wrong.

Having stripped both, the all steel MK II's are trickier to pop open. Both can be tough for those not mechanically inclined to line up the hammer strut properly. A good trick is to turn the gun over at different points in the reassembly to put the strut out of the way, then flip it over to line up.
