My questions are...Are Remingtons that desirable. I have an old 11-48, but didn't know they had the popularity showed by this survey.

2nd...Where in the heck are the Beretta's? I love my Extrema or the 390 didn't make the grade?

Here is another survey... Best all-around shotgun.

Rem 870
Rem 1100
Winchester 12
Benelli SBE
Moss 500
Browning A-5
Browning Citori

Again, no Berettas?

And I have a Wetherby Athena V, not saying it should make best over-all but the Citori isn't head and shoulders above it in my opinion. I'd take my Athena over it.

keep in mind this is a reader's poll. The 1100 is a lot cheaper than even the cheapest Beretta, which makes it available to a lot more people.

Heck, if you're making a list of the "best" shotguns (regardless of price), I'd think H&H and Krieghoff would have to be on it somewhere. But, if you ask 100 people what the best shotgun is, odds are a small minority has handled a Krieghoff and maybe a couple have even seen an H&H in persion.

I have one of each and they're fine for waterfowl. This past season I used an SX-2 and plan on using again this season. I'm surprised there aren't some Browning Golds and SX-2s on the list. Could be it's an old list.

The survey was March 06, so your are somewhat correct John.

My buddy swears by his Ruger Red Label.

And thats a good point too, nico...If you are taking a survey on the best cars, it would be difficult for me to say Jaguar R is the best car ever made, since I've never been in one.

notice how the winchester model 12 wasn't on the field and stream list. id put it up against the 870 any day of the week for the title of best pump. the 1100 is a good gun for how old the technology that it uses is. i don't conceder the 1100 in the same class as the modern auto's (brownings, x2, ect)

870's and 1100's are good, but browning and beretta have got to be on a best "field" gun list, unless everyone thinks what they have is best, which i see alot of sometimes.

It's a reader's poll. The title should have been "The Favorite Guns of Field and Stream Readers."

And that list is a far cry from being "The Best Guns Ever."

Agreed. I figured if they're putting the F&S name on the survey they would have made sure all participants have at least fired, let alone owned several of the guns.

Another problem is the Benelli SBE being behind the 1100, but at least the Benelli made the list, my Extrema2 didn't. I'm sure there are folks who don't like the SBE but to put the 870 AND the 1100 above it, doesn't ring true to me. And I'd take the SBE 1000 times out of a 1000 over the Mossberg too.

The 870 belongs at the top of any such list. I shan't repeat myself as to why.

These lists and polls are totally subjective. Popularity contests.

And it matters little. If you're happy with your shotgun, Huzzah!!

Meantime, I'm happy with mine, though I hope there's a few more coming.

As a retired Outdoor Writer, I can tell another factor that no one thinks of. Advertising. Their contracts really make a difference how a list reads.
