Fiber Optic sights?

I'm getting ready to replace the stock all-black OE sights on my Kimber UCII ... leaning towards TruGlo fiber optics, don't want night sights for this particular gun ... anyone have experience with fiber optics they'd like to share? ... part of the selection process involves cost; the front and rear sight package is about $50 at Amazon ..

Thanks ...

I can only say that I replaced factory sights on two Glocks. One was a Sevigney target sight with a red fiber optic on a model 17 Long, and the other was a Warren Tactical using a green fiber optic on a model 34. I was very well pleased with the seller, the product, and the improved shooting results.

I have one pistol with a fiber optic front sight and I really like it for range use. In low light, it's not so great.

I have TFOs on two Glocks and an XD45. They're excellent.

Here's the G19:

In LOW light, fiber optic sights are still really quite useful, since they are still relatively bright; it's the contrast that counts. You can see the fiber glowing in light conditions that are still too bright for night sights to be visible. There is, of course, a tipping point when it's too dark for the FO to work.
I prefer a narrow front post with FO, and plain black rear. Almost all factory front sights are too wide.

I got the TruGlo & love them Particularly the red front & green rear, they really do stand out without making the gun bulky or top heavy.

I've gone full circle... tried the early night sights, have had to replace a couple sets... if they don't glow, they are just black sights, had several early battery powered sights... now anything hunting or even remotely tactical gets fiber optic... I had guns put away in a bug out bag, that the night sights went dim... I paid through the nose 15 years ago... & almost never used them... I can always change the batteries on my tactical flashlights... I've found that most any shooting light where I could positively identify the target, that fiber optics will glow at least enough to be able to get the gun pointed in the right direction... I've found the orange fiber optic tubes to be the brightest over green or red, so I usually use orange & green rods, as they give me good contrast & brightness

How sturdy are they? Always makes me nervous to see the exposed FO fibers, makes me think they could jostled or dislodges easily.

I have a set on a 454 Casull Ruger Alaskan, with a couple 100 rounds through it... no problems from recoil yet...

BTW... my S&W 44 Special air weight K frame has a fiber optic front sight... still works fine after many many years... it's pinned, which I don't like, seems not to transfer as much light as my non pinned sights, but if the sight it's self is designed right, they should hold up from wear, use, & recoil

At my age I can't see squat without 'em! :p

Never had a problem with durability. The ones I have the ends of the fibers are slightly flared which keeps them n place.

I have them on my Buckmark and bought them for my son to put on his Buckmark. I also have them on my Dan Wesson PM9.

Actually, only the front sight is FO.

I had the various colored inserts and tried them all. Green works best for me.

I have a TFO front sight on my P226 and it is great. The model I have has Trijcon "standard" night sights in the rear and a TFO in the front, the difference in the shade of the green really makes the front sight pop IMO.

I wish they had TFO's with a red or orange front and two green rears, I would be all over it for all my guns.

I had TruGlo on a Glock 19 I used for carry and competition and the front sight fiber just disappeared one day. Heard that is not uncommon.
I also have heard their shelf life is limited. Can anyone else using them confirm or deny?

Best combination is a flat black rear sight with a fiber optic front sight.

U notch to pick up the front sight faster, square notch for slightly better precision.

Novak's or 10-8s work pretty well.

I prefer green because it contrasts nicely with most targets, but I've been told that the human eye picks up red better.

I have a flat black square notch rear sight with a green fiber optic on my 686+, and it really does draw my eye to the front sight.

But on my 1911 I am installing a 10-8 U notch with a red fiber optic front sight.

Don't sweat too much about the color, since they can be easily swapped out.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Shelf life of a fiber optic sight is unlimited. Shelf life of a tritium (trilux glow type) light emitting sight is about 10~15 years to 1/2 strength & about that again till no longer useful.
I have a trilux illuminated compass that is 17 years old & still glows enough to be usable, even if a little dimmer than new.
