The guys by me want to charge me $75 + backrond check. Isn't that exorbitant? I thought the going price was about $25.

My guy in Colorado Springs charges $20.00.

I've received so many transfers through him, he will out ship for me at cost. He wants my business and tries to keep it.

It is what it is !!

In my neck of the woods and by my measure, it certainly is. However, if that is what he charges then that's his business. In our area, most are going for $20-$25. There is one chain store that reportedly charges $80.00 so obviously, I won't waste my time and his. ....

I guess the question is; does the cost justify their efforts? Well, one Smith/Dealer charges me nothing but I deal with him quite often. There is another one that I asked, cold off the street and he charges $10.00. Commented that I thought this was generous and his reply was that it was only paper work. ..... ;)

Be Safe !!!

The guys I have used around me charge $20-25.

Check out the online retailers like Bud's or Jetguns. Many of them have lists of FFL holders around the country and what they charge. A friend of mine has purchased a couple of firearms from Jetguns and he found a guy in our area who only charges $10.

Personally, I think $75 is a ripoff and I also have a problem with the shops who charge more for paperwork on a new gun vs. a used gun. After all, it is the very same paperwork for new or used.

The difference between $75 and $25 will buy plenty enough gas to get to a different FFL.

The one and only time I've had to pay a transfer fee, it was $30. (Which, seeing that the seller and I hand delivered the piece to him, I thought was a bit high. Private transaction with a guy just across the state line. We literally drove a mile and across a bridge, to an FFL across the river. Curse you, GCA '68!)

"How much do you charge to do a transfer?" is a perfectly reasonable question to ask an FFL holder.

It's a free market.

At the grocery stores I can buy a dozen eggs anywhere from 88¢ to $3.00 per dozen.

There is a gun dealer near me who charges $95.00 for FFL I am not sure why I got angry at that - I did feel like it was exorbitant, but I'm not sure where the anger came from. No one was twisting my arm to use him.

I found someone who charges $20.00

Another gun dealer is charging $699.00 plus tax IL fee, for a Glock 17L and they charge $50.00 for FFL transfer.

So I found a guy in Florida who charges $600 for a Glock 17L OTD w/ free shipping and no FFL fee on his end, and a guy near me who will do the FFL for $20.00

Having said all that though - someone will probably buy that Glock 17L from them , maybe they'll haggle it down 50 bucks or so, but it will get sold.

But for that store that charges $95.00 for an FFL, I doubt that anyone will use them for a transfer, anyone savy enough to find a better price somewhere else for a pistol can easily find a better price somewhere else for a ttransfer.
