FFL Question

Is there normally any problem from buying a firearm from an individual and having them send it to my FFL? I've usually only done FFL to FFL transfers, but this guy says my FFL needs to take it from an individual in this case.

Thoughts?

There is no problem legally. Some FFLs will only accept from another FFL. If by "needs to" take it he means that there is no law prohibiting it, he is right. If he means is required to, he is dead wrong. The receiving FFL holder is a private citizen and a private business and as such may choose with whom he or she does business. Check with your receiving FFL to see if he will accept it from a non-FFL sender.

It won't be a problem. I bought my last gun this way and a friend of mine just bought one this way. Check with your FFL because you will need information on the selling party as far as name, address, ect. Make sure you have all of that info and it only takes a few minutes.

It's not a big deal. I bought my last handgun, a discontiued and hard to find model, from a FFL in Nebraska. She and my FFL in Ohio exchanged license copies via fax, and it was a done deal. $30 shipping and $20 for the usual BATF paperwork, and it was a piece of cake. Check on www.gunbroker.com to see if there's a FFL in your area.

You should be able to find an FFL who will receive a gun

from an individual. What mine request is that the individual include a copy of their state drivers License and sign their name under it in either red or blue ink...

What he probably means by "needs to", is that he'll be shipping it, and you need to make sure your FFL will receive from a non FFL.
