FFL question

I have a C&R FFL and I have a question on the regulations. If I understand the books they sent me, I have to keep my collection at the residence on my license. This is the question, I am leaving for Europe (Asia technically) in a few months and will be gone for a few weeks, can I leave my collection at a friends house to avoid it from being stolen? I did this last year when I went to Europe (Mediteranian) before I received my 03 FFL with my rifles and unregulated handguns. Now that I have logged C&R handguns and rifles, what are the laws, or what would you do? Is this similar to a C&R FFL or a FFL dealer having his neighbour sign for his delivered rifle/handgun?
Also, what if they decided to audit me while I was away? Do they have a right to come into my house without me present?
I could call or e-mail the ATF but this is the weekend and I trust someone who has gone through this more than I trust an agent over the phone. A letter may not be responded to before I leave.

I would appreciate any advice anyone has to offer even if you have not gone through this situation yourself.

Yes, you can store your firearms at another location. Just leave your license and bound book at your licensed premises. Provide the friend with a copy of your FFL and a letter stating you are storing your firearms with him in case something happens while they are there.

I've had my C&R for 20 years now and have never been audited. So don't worry too much about it. Just have someone collect your mail and they can inform you if ATF happens to send you an invitation to an audit. At that point, you can contact them at whatever number they provide and explain you are currently out of the country.

ATF cannot enter your house, whether you are there or not, without a search warrant just like any other LEO must obtain. They may audit your collection once per year, but even that does not have to take place at your house if you don't want it to. They can do the audit at their office if you choose to do so.

HK is correct. I called the ATFE about me storing my C&R's in two places not of my residence. The rifles are stored in a walk in safe and the pistols are at another local. My reason is due to the fire danger out this way and we have had little rainfall this year (rain year) so the danger is greater.

I have my original paper bound book with the pistols and a second electronic one with my rifles. A third copy is here at the house.

When (if) the ATFE wants to do an inspection they will call you up and set up a time/date (if they want to do a home inspection) or tell you to appear at your nearest ATFE office with your book. I doubt that you will ever get a summons from the ATFE unless your name "pops up" on some database as being red flaged.

I am going to try to "step up" to the FFL01 when I get my safe and be mostly a catalog store then an inventory store. But when I get the guns in I need someplace to store them until pickup.
