FFL eZ check is now online...

Yep, and this is a response that I received from anther friend who's an FFL;

Thanks for this Nancy. I went out there and checked for mine - it was
there. But then I incremented the last number by one and submitted it - it
brought up the "premises" of that licensee. I incremented again and got
another. They were both in my state, so I infer that the numbers are
probably at least arranged geographically and chronologically. So I wrote to
BATF with their "Report a Problem" button and expressed concern about the
matter of this confidential information becoming public domain. It would
help to have an authorized number to start off with, and that's not hard to
obtain; merely go to a gun store and ask for a signed copy! Then you could
find a bunch of "premises" in your state. Further, a well written computer
program could ask this eZ web site for a list of everything its got.

This is all too convenient for crooks and hackers. They will, sooner than
later, obtain a list of all FFL owners, including crufflers, which they can
update whenever they choose.

Yup, mine came up, no sweat. Incremented down one number and found another FFL just down the road from me. Scary.

Unbelieveable.

Now whoever wants you FFL data can get it.

On display on the WORLD WIDE WEB!

Staggeringly stupid!!

I can imagine what will happen.

Anyone want to bet on what other "assigned" numbers are sequentially assigned and available to others over the net! UNBELIEVABLE!!

The fact that you have a license and the licensed premisis address are a mtter of public record. There is no violation of privacy.

So how long do you think it's going to take the criminal mind to figure out that this is an easy way to get their hands on a license number, with an address, to use for neferious actions.

I feel like someone has taken the football right out from under me.

Good Greif, Charle Brown :(

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998
