"FEMA suspends Phoenix Rescuers over arms"

Anybody see (CNN videotape of) the New Orleans looter-"cop" pull his service pistol on an unarmed cameraman on the tenth floor fire escape of the hotel? There's a management issue completely justifying Arizona's attitude toward officer safety.

They don't deserve any help with attitudes like that. Good news, my friends are coming home safe and sound, to help make MY community safe.

Welcome home guys.

You're appreciated here, let the warf rats drown in their own sewage.

AZ-
I have friends just coming back, too. They're doctors and nurses; electrical workers and construction people; pilots and engineers.

They're tired and homesick. Do they get a free pass from local Safety Laws in other jurisdictions as a result also? Or just the cops?
Rich

I don't get it... Do you mean the arizonans have to comply with safety laws in TX, NM, OK, etc?

Or do you mean do only arizona cops get to carry weapons when in NO?

No matter how I interpret what you said, I still come back to the fact that NO is a welfare city that has misused my taxes for 30+ years, is relying now on the charity of good-hearted volunteers that want to be able to come home alive at the end of the day. There are crocodiles in the water and thugs in the city, with primitive or no communications and terrible emergency response by police or paramedics.

The hell with them. Come home, everyone.

Oops, sorry, my bad. Thought we were in the thread about NJ Cops stopped for speeeding in VA.

Still, this is not to be blamed on NO. It's a Fed Action, no?

Nawlins police started taking guns away from its own citizenry, too. All the rescue guidelines are coming from the LA governors office or NO mayor's office. FEMA/DHS is just a phone bank.

Some PR machine is trying to spin that NO is not a jungle where rescuers are attacked by 2-legged, 4-legged and no-legged predators. It wants to spin that matter at the expense of the lives of good, charitable Arizonans willing to come in and help, as long as they can defend themselves from whatever trouble they come across.

Nawlins can rot in its bloated grave, 5 feet under the gulf.

Cruel, but what else do you do with a rabid dog?

I accept the dangers that my environment may present. I don't choose to live at the bottom of the Hudson river because I can't keep a house from flooding there.

I don't live in Kalifornia because I don't like communism and I don't like earthquakes.

I don't live in Florida because I don't want to deal with hurricanes.

I don't live in NOLA because I don't want to live underwater.

The only dangers I face in my current home are temperature, draught, poisonous critters, and potential flooding if some bozo blows up the dams.

I don't expect the federal government to provide me with A/C if we lose electricity in phoenix. We had a draught for several years and it was a concern, but we got a lot of rain in the last year and all is fine again and the reservoirs are full.

If some bozo blows up the dams and lets the reservoirs out on the valley, well, I didn't buy any federal flood insurance. I guess I am SOL. I'm sure it would only cost me a hundred bucks a year, so maybe I should. Then again, I live about 50-100 feet higher than the rest of the valley anyways.

I accept the risks of my environment.

I also haven't misused my federal aid designed to save me from my imminent threats.

I also am not begging complete strangers to give any and all aid, but only on my terms at the expense of their safety.

Fair enough for me in your case.

What'll you do about your less stoic neighbors? The honest, hard working ones who've raised their kids well but had never mentally or physically prepared for that type of disaster? Shall your New Mex neighbors flush your friends, on the excuse that "I got mine"?

Like you, on a global basis, I couldn't care less.....I'd prefer to live my own fate, rather than have .gov determine it for me. But, when I bring it right home to my neighborhood, I realize there's LOTS of people who haven't come to that conclusion that are still worthy of a leg up.

I say again,

I am not begging complete strangers to give any and all aid, but only on my terms and at the expense of their safety.

You know we're screwed as a society when we start making demands and restrictions for good samaritans.

Oh, well...who is John Galt?

I think that having armed people who don't meet your agencies guidelines (however arcane) NOT going door-to-door is probably a good thing.

Look at the wanton actions of some of the CHP, for instance....

Going door-to-door knocking is not such a big deal. You're there to give water, food, medical aid, and you've got a shirt or jacket that identifies you as such, you'll probably be fine.

But forbidding you from the assistance of Federal Marshalls who want to come with you, while fearing for your bodily integrity due to alligators, looters and snakes is lunacy. That's what happened to the AZ volunteers. They were told absolutely no armed escort, AND they couldn't arm themselves, either.

Again, I hope the whole city sits under 5 feet of crocodile-ridden, mosquito infested malaria-loaded sewage.

-from the WashPost story:

"Phoenix police were added to the team about a year ago, and officials say they are essential to protecting firefighters and FEMA's $1.4 million worth of equipment."
==================

Hey, you take Uncle Scam's money, you play by Uncle Scam's rules. That's the leash that gets attached to you when you accept federal funding. That's the stick from which the carrot dangles. As stupid as it sounds, the team really doesn't have a leg to stand on unless they give Uncle back the pretty toys that the $1.4 mil of FEMA money bought them.

IMHO better they should be independent anyway, but that's just me. Otherwise I could have said that FEMA needs them worse than they need FEMA, but they took the queen's soverign and owe the queen their service- on her terms.

Sorry 'bout that.

Hey, you take Uncle Scam's money, you play by Uncle Scam's rules.

Sadly, Lee is quite correct. When you accept Uncle sugers money, there will be a mulitude of strings attached. In essence, they "own" you.

The same goes for just your normal welfare participate, your normal "joe", etc.. There is always a price to be paid when you accept the money.

Wayne

I don't see how the FEMA guide lines were violated when the cops in question had been sworn in as temp US Marshals. They had no jurisdiction problem and they know it but they still try and bully the locals. Feds! :barf: What can you say, dress them up and you still can't take them anywhere.
