Anyone know a good (inexpensive) source for .58 caliber conicals?
Should I just go ahead and get a $25.00 mold?

I've been shooting blackpowder for about 14 years, but nothing larger than .50.
I just got a .58 2-band Enfield, and had GREAT results (1.25" 5-shot group at 50 yds) using T/C 555 grain Maxi-Balls and 110 grns of Pyrodex RS. :)
The downside is they cost 8.95 for 15! :(
That's just a little more than I want to pay for backyard target practice.

Molds are every bit worth the investment. Casting your own is a LOT cheaper than buying with muzzleloaders. Plumbing lead is easy to get (I currently have about 900 pounds of it), and it works great, because it's pure lead. I cast .50, but I'm sure the same holds true for .58

Buy a mould. I have a Parker-Hale mould for my 2 band and my musketoon (both are the earlier English made ones). There's a thread at the Live Fire Forum in which I described my trip to the range with my 2 band. Those Minie Balls are really something else but boy, talk about using a lot of lead.

Yessir! get the mould :) Us front stuffers and black powder shooters are insependent and self sufficient critters anyhow - why depend on some mail order or such?
Ripped out all the old lead piping from this farmhouse here in the 'Sierra' and have about a centuries worth of casting material - you'd probably find enough scrap around over there since lead has become 'politically incorrect' :D
Congratulations on your rifle - good buy!

Melt and cast lead ONLY in a well ventilated area and with a fan set up to carry the fumes away from you. Handle lead as little as possible and with gloves. This is no joke. I have a good friend who may be dying of irreversible lead poisoning after years of bullet casting.
