FEG PA63 any good?

My Experience ...

with one was not very satisfying. First, a guy ripped me off by selling me one used which had a broken part in the trigger workings. He had rigged the broken part to work while dry firing, but during live firing the trigger would freeze up after 1-2 shots.

I share this because I attempted to have the gun repaired and can tell you firsthand that the internal parts used in same look like the cheap little stampings you'd find in a plastic pellet pistol. After seeing this, I surmised that once unserviceable, these guns were designed by the Commies be thrown away, not repaired.

That aside, firing the gun was unpleasant because:

1. 9x18 had a SHARP little kick to it
2. the slide bit the web of my hand without fail
3. the double action trigger was unusably heavy
4. sights are an afterthought not even usable on the target range.
5. At the time, extra magazines were hard to come by.

Incidentally, selling a used PA-63 in a Makarov-world really sucks, since the Maks are head and shoulders superior to the PA-63 and have more available accessories. Most people would rather just buy a Mak (I owned 2 East German ones - WOW).

Agree and disagree with the above post, I have both the pa-63 and makarov, while overall quality
of the mak is better I also enjoy shooting the pa-63, very lite weight, points well, and yes
recoil is noticable if using russian ammo, however
I reload and if shooting full power loads i use
federal, etc. Mine is very accurate, small dot of
paint on front sight helps.Magazines are available
from Makarov.com also parts are sold by KBI,inc.
To be honest at a price of $90 buy two for a spare
and enjoy.

I had one for a few years back in college. I was actually very satisfied with mine. Accuracy was very good, as was reliability. I thought it pointed well and it carried even better with it's alloy frmae. I typically used either ChiCom 9x18 or Hornady hollowpoints in it and it fed either one just fine. I actually didn't think recoil was that big of a deal.

I didn't have the problem with slide bite either which I did with my Walther PPK. After owning both and shooting both extentsively I rank tehm equal in terms of accuracy and reliability. I may have actually shot the PA-63 a touch better. The FEG was definatly not as well finished as the Walther but that didn't effect the function at all. I actually had to replace the extractor spring once (I lost the part while cleaning it!) and found that a Walther spring worked fine.

I eventually passed mine off to my dad who used it for a couple more years who then sold it to a buddy of mine who still uses it as his carry gun.

I'd definatly consider picking up another one. It worked as well as my Walther and was a heck of a lot more affordable!

I have two of them, as well as two Makarovs. I do prefer the Maks, but I like the PA-63s as well. One of mine has a problem with the decocker (it's too stiff to use), but otherwise it works fine. The other one works fine. Here's how I compare the PA-63 with the Makarov:

Good Points:
- Lighter due to aluminum frame
- A little thinner (I think)
- Push-button mag release under thumb
- Looks cool - kind of like a Walther
- Very low cost for a decent gun

Bad Points:
- Holds one less round in magazine
- Probably not quite as well-made and durable
- Mine have had a few more jams
- Sights are smaller
- A little longer than Mak (I think)
- Extra mags cost more ($10-$12 I think)
- Fewer accessories available (holsters, etc.)

All in all, I think the PA-63s are a good deal. I'm even thinking of ordering another one while they are available so cheaply.
