FEG Hi-Power clone

I visited a new gunshop in my area today (gotta see what they might have that I can't live without). Owner had a FEG Hi-Power clone (9mm) in the case; very nice feel, decent finish. I would like some opinions on this gun and what a fair price would be. This one was NIB for $309.

Also, anyone know a website for FEG??

Seems a little on the high side if we're talking about the same modl) - in NE Ohio I bought my FEG FP-9 (gun, 2 mags and a cheesy case) about three months ago new for $210. I'm not aware of FEG having a website.

As for the gun itself, I'm very happy with it. It shoots quite accurately and I haven't had any feeding problems/jams with it. The two things that I have problems with are the sights, which are pretty crappy and the trigger pin, which likes to drift out after a bit of shooting. I did remove the mag safety which seems to help the feel of the trigger a little bit.

All in all, it was well worth the money I paid for it and has lived up to pretty much most of my expectations.

The FEG Hi-Power clone is a great pistol, but $309 is a little steep. I bought mine a year or two ago for $200.

It seems to accept stock panels, magazines, triggers, and safeties made for the original Browning pistol without any compatibility problems.

Engineer; The trigger spring WILL move, by design. It shoudn't come out unless the trigger return spring is out of place.

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

Ed,

I've noticed a little detent in the pin where the spring is supposed to sit, but a couple of times, I've noticed that the pin has drifted out at least 1/4 - 1/2 of an inch (if memory serves right) - I'm pretty sure it isn't supposed to come out that far. I've always just pushed it back in and haven't seen how far it will come out.

Engineer, here is how to fix the pin compliments of George Stringer, take a cold chisel and hammer in 2 gooves about 1/8" long and 180 degrees apart on one end of the pin. This will expand that area and the pin should hold securely.

Wade, I love my PJK-9HP. As I have stated in many previous posts, it is accurate, reliable, and feels great in my hands. A great clone of a great gun. Trigger was a little gritty when I got it, but has smoothed out nicely and I now feel no need for a trigger job.

I paid $219 for mine, and saw it later for $199.

You'll enjoy it very much. Get some of those 17 rnd South African magazines for it, too. Do a search and you'll come up with a couple of sources for them.

Great gun. Had mine for four years and never had a problem regardless of ammo. You can still get FEG 15 round mags. Seems FEG mags fit a Browning but Browning mags don't fit FEG's without a little filing on the release. The hole is larger.
Last gun show had new ones for $249.

$250 is what they SHOULD be selling for but who knows ythese days. FEG is the best buy in the market in my opinion. I think I bought mine, all told with tax and background check for $225 several (4?) years ago.

Every magazine I've bought marked "browning hi-power" has worked flaswlessly.. from FEG, Browning, Ram line, South Africa, and "stuff found in a rusty ammo can"

That pin drift thing happened to me too.. I had a smith grind a notch in the center of the pin so the spring would hold it in place.

Essential Modifications:
Replace that tiny safty with one you can use one handed and touch up the paint on the three dot sights. Beyond that you are good to go.

Other mods:

Custom grips or grip tape, extended slide release, replacement sites.

But that FEG is a straight shooter right out of the box.

Note on mine:

after aproximately 1500 rounds with 1 jam.. I had 2 jams in competition last week. the last round out of the magazine, when fired was not ejecting out of the port.. so i'm thinking I shot the extractor loose.. or I've got a bit of primer residue/unburned powder making it stick. Any thoughts before it takes a trip to the smith? ) this gun has been my "old reliable" for a LONG time.

Just bought a JPK-9HP NIB off gunbroker.com for $200 w/1 15 round mag. Seemed to be the going price +/-. Haven't shot it yet, but have high hopes based on what I've read here.

I paid $199 for my FEG PJK HP9 last year. My PJK is accurate but has a rough trigger. Wolf 115gr FMJ is the only ammo I've had trouble with-two fte in a box of 50 while my G17 and CZ 75B never flinched. Beware if you have large hands like me. The PJK has a shorter grip than the High Powers I have handled, leading to hammer bite or having my little finger engage the mag safety by hitting the toe of the mag when I adjust my grip. YMMV.

If you are looking for a Browning HP Clone, dont forget to check out the ARCUS-94. They are very nice and still cost around $211
