I have a 7.65 FEG AP-MBP with an aluminum frame. The frame has a fair amount of "brown" tarnish. What suggestions does anyone have, besides elbow grease , for removal of this tarnish/patina? Thanks!
Steel slide, titanium-aluminum alloy frame. The "brown" is there, all the same. FEG AP-MBP 7.65 two tone. Anyone familiar with this pistol, that has cleaned/polished one up, please advise, would appreciate!
That's just it, I may want to flip it. And, since I'm not talking about taking the patina off of great great grandpappy's heirloom Gen I SAA and detrimentally affecting it's value, I thought to shine it up a bit. All I'm doing is soliciting advice from anyone who has similar dealings with this firearm. Not metallurgy or life lessons. Simple request, that's all, no more no less......geeesh
What you are calling "tarnish" is actually the coloration. The anodizing on the aluminum frame is wearing thin. Underneath is silver colored aluminum.
You won't be able to polish the remaining anodizing off with metal polish, nor can you easily touch it up.
It can be re anodized, or you can have it painted. Anodizing can be removed with sodium hydroxide, but this is not recommended unless you are experienced in refinishing.
If you are going to sell the gun, the best thing to do is leave it alone. There is nothing you can easily do that will make it look better, but you can easily make it look worse.
