Good morning everyone. I got a chance to fire my new 380 this weekend. WOW! I love this thing. Internally it seems to be very well made. especially for a $169.00 gun, (when they rang the sale up at my gun shop it was supposed to be a $189.00 gun but they sold it to me as marked, cool huh!) VERY accurate and reliable so far.

Thanks to those who gave there imput on this thing last week.

Glad you enjoyed it! I've enjoyed mine for about 2 yrs. Its a great value. The approximate size, shape and shootability of a PPK at a much lower cost.

FYI I did some home gunsmithing and filed the "corners" of the beavertail on mine. Made it nice and round. Now its even more comfortable to shoot.

Also, how well regulated are your sights? Mine shoots about 5-6" above point of aim at 15 yards. Yours any better?

They're good reliable pistols. Friend of mine has one, and except for problems with some JHPs, it feeds everything else just fine.

Mine does shoot a little high at 15 yrds. But only about 3 in.

Those are splendid guns, especially for the price. I do recommend a little internal polishing work. Some of the triggers are so well grooved that they are actually sharp and uncomfortable. This can be dealt with by smoothing the trigger with a Dremel tool grinder without even removing the trigger from the gun (if you are careful).

BTW, in spite of exterior similarities, parts do not interchange with the Walther PP.

Greetings,

I bought mine at a gun show after reading an article in a gun rag about eastern block pistols coming on the market. Unbeatable value. Reliable and accurate and if you drop it or it gets borrowed for evidence, not that big a deal. Mine is the FEG SMC-380 imported by KBI.

I've owned one since 1996. It had problems digesting the Federal HP ammo but a quick polish job on the feed ramp solved it.
Mine shoots right on at 7 yards.
Very reliable and well made gun for under $200.00.

Against my better judgement I bought one for kicks. My partner talked me into it. The price was right.

However, the damn POS keeps dumping the magazine during firing. No, I'm not accidently depressing it either. I'm not sure what the problem is. It occurs with both magazines. One more than the other. I think it might be due to the little cut out for the mag catch not being big enough. One day I'm going to get the out ol drimmel tool and enlarge it.

My advice.....stick with quality weapons. There is truth to the saying "you get what you pay for"

Joe, sorry to hear abot your difficulty. Yeah, I think you can solve that problem with the Dremel.

I own 2 FEG's (APK MKII and PJK-9HP) and have had no trouble. I hope this is the last of your troubles with it.

I've watched this thread for a while, and now I just have to put in my $.02! I've got an SMC-380 (PPK-sized based in large part on the recommendations of TFLers), and I think it's every bit as high in quality as the Interarms USA Walthers. Because I'd read about breaking-in jams, I polished the feed ramp with some Flitz, a patch, and my pinkie before I took it out (about 15 min. work while watching TV), and it works perfectly. I bought it just to play around with, but it's so reliable and accurate that I carry the thing sometimes.

The KBI pistols are one of those "I can't believe what a great deal this is" pieces, like an E. German Makarov in the early '90s or a NIB Mosin Nagant 91/59 for $70 right now. They're the kind of thing you'd tell a friend or family member to pick up for the value alone.

Joe, I think you might be the first person I've ever heard to have problems with the KBIs. I suspect it's a problem with your mag catch, not the mags themselves (what are the odds you get two bum mags?). Call the KBI parts dept. at (717) 540-4645 and see what they're willing to do for you - there *is* a warranty (Aha! The lawyer in me comes out). In my experience (buying extra mags and non-thumb-rest grips), they're very helpful folks.

cheers,
erich

I agree with Erich, I ordered parts from KBI over the phone and they were very helpful. I also have never before heard of problems with these pistols, which were designed as military/police pistols.

My FEG model is the SMC-380. I will give KBI a call and see what they can do. I doubt its still in warranty. The reason I purchased the POS is because I had made the mistake of letting go of a Walther PPKS and thought that it would be a good replacement. Although it somewhat resembled the PPK in appearence, it was no where close in quality/craftsmanship. Although, I have to admit, that up until it started spitting out the magazine I thought I had a pretty good deal.

I might have some kind of lemon. However, I have/had just about all the top brands of pistols...SIG, Berreta, Colt, S&W, Ruger(revovler), no Glock or HK(would like a P7) and never experienced any type of problem.

IMHO, if your purchasing your first handgun, and its for self defense, stick with a quality brand.

My only FEG is a PA 63 in 9x18 Makarov, I picked it up on a whim for 100 bucks. The sights suck, the alloy frame gets dents and silver color shines through, the base plates for the magazines pull loose. BUT I have never had a failure to feed or eject using surplus ammo. It's what I carry when I'm out doing tractor duty in the bush etc.
Once I find some mags with no projection I would carry this pistol most anyplace. Great shooter at 3-10 yards.
