Feeling kind of retro right now...

'Cause I just traded into a pair of colt detective specials for the wife and I to play with. Yup, I got a Glock. Yup, I got Sigs. Yup, I got a P7M8. So why the heck did I get this thing?

Well, you know, it kind of grew on me. I was looking to get into something the wife could handle, she's waiting on her carry permit to come in and was thinking about what she wanted for a carry gun. She usually shoots either a Mitchell .45 or a 686 .357 from a company that will remain nameless.

She told me she likes revolvers better, but she doesn't like the J-frames, we've already tried those and I wasn't too happy with that company anyways, so forget that. A trip to the not-so-local local emporium turned up a pair of colts, one in the older exposed ejector rod style and one of the newer style. After trying just about every other thing in the case, we settled on those. After some wheeling and dealing we took them home.

Upon detail cleaning, they both shined up nice, the older one has been reblued, but it's not a bad job. The newer one didn't seem to have been fired much at all, the rings on the cylinder face were almost non-existent. Bores on both are perfect and actions are both tight.

At the range they really impressed me. Both shoot very well, with the slight edge going to the older piece, which the wife promptly confiscated. Well, as long as she's happy. I dug up some Winchester SWCHP 158 +P loads which have a reasonably good rep, so I think that ought to do it.

Anyone else packing a DS? Any special care and feeding instructions? I never been much of a colt fan, but I might just have to change my mind, these little puppies are rather impressing me. Very smooth actions, better sights than the Chiefs, and six rounds instead of five. Not too shabby.
