Feeding flat points in MP5 clone pistols

I have a PTR 9CT (It's a SBR but it started life as a pistol)

It shoots great. Very fun, accurate, low recoil.

But the thing is I love to shoot suppressed and most 147 grain sub sonic ammo has a flat nose bullet profile.

When shooting these types of bullets I get a failure to feed on the last round 95% of the time. Some ammo like the Winchester Super Suppressed will fail to feed multiple times in a mag where others like Speer Lawman will run right up to that last round.

The only solution I have found is to load one regular velocity 124 grain ball nose bullet then fill the mag with my subsonics.

Has anyone else with a MP5 clone had this issue? What did you do to solve it?

Not sure if copper plated bullets are your cup of tea, but Xtreme makes a 147gr round nose bullet. I use them in my JustRight Carbine running around 1200fps and they are an excellent bullet.

Unfortunately I do not have space in my house for a reloading machine.

I had a Dillon press many years ago but then my daughter came and my man cave became her room... If my next computer is a laptop, I may be able to get a new press and set it up where my PC desk is... But that will take time and money.

So for now I must stick with factory loaded ammo.

Atlanta Arms catalogs 147gr roundnose 9mm at 900 fps pistol.
They have different grades, might have to backorder the least expensive.

Freedom Munitions has a plated 147 gr RN load at 925 fps.

Im not knowledgeable about clones, but on my old Sheriffs office i used a cpl different versions of MP5’s.

We used Speer Golddot as duty ammo and Speer lawman for training. The Lawman has a flat point and the golddot is a hollow point. Never had any issues with feeding those bullets.

I would suspect magazine problems with your issues.

The only failures my son has had with his AP5 was with 147 grain subs with flat points, 147 round nose was fine.

With the magazine seated and the bolt locked back, how much movement is there in the magazine, fore and aft at the bottom of the mag?

If there is a significant amount, try holding the bottom of the magazine forward while firing those last few rounds or with troublesome ammo.

If that alleviates the problem, you might be able to massage the magazine well a bit.

I'm using KCI Korean made 30 rounders. The HK factory mags may solve the problem but they are $80 to $100 a piece and I can't afford them right now.

Exactly what happens when it misfeeds? A picture will help.

round goes nose up in the receiver. Doesn't go into chamber. It's always the last round. Happens in all 5 of my mags. I'll get a pic the next time I shoot it.

I was able to get some 158 grain round nose subsonic ammo. It feeds 100% But it was kind of expensive and has now sold out...

It is a problem caused by the feed lips and the spring of the magazine. The spring doesn't have enough strength to keep the last round pressing against the feed lips. The lips are setting up the correct attitude of the cartridge to feed into the chamber. I would trying stretching the spring to give it a little bit more strength.

It is a problem caused by the feed lips and the spring of the magazine.

If it is a spring issue, Wolff Springs make extra power versions for 30-rnd MP5 magazines. It would be a easy thing to try.
