No.

Run the AK as it was designed.

It's not an M4 and trying to make it one will only leave you frustrated.

No for me too.

AK's work best as AK's. No need to mess them up trying to make them something else.

When you spend a little quality time with one, all the "bad" traits magically seem to go away. ;)

No, that just seems to add an unessery possibility of something breaking and with pratice you can change a mag in an ak that fast anyway.

I like it. What kind of materials, cost, etc?..

Edit : Wait...requires modified mags? That's a deal breaker. No offense.

How much does it cost? I've seen a similar product for the Saiga .223 that allows you to use AR-15/M16 magazines, but that device was over $300 IIRC (nearly the cost of the rifle). I'd also want to see reliability tests as I'd have absolutely no interest in a device that compromises feed reliability.

As AK103K pointed out, most of the features of an AK were designed the way they were for a very specific reason. For example, while the safety/selector switch isn't as fast or ergonomic as many others, it is quite positive and easy to operate with heavy gloves or mittens on. Likewise, while the mag release may not be as quick or smooth to work, it does help prevent lost magazines.

I don't see the point of chopping up AK mags just so I can insert my mags into a chute vs rocking them in. It this was for non AK pattern mags I could follow that. For instance G3, M14 or FAL mags in a 308 saiga would certainly be interesting. As is, I really don't see a lot of benefit over a traditional AK setup.

Its an issue of training, not equipment. I'm pretty darn fast with my AK mag changes and I've trained all my life with the M-16/M4.

There's nothing wrong with the rock-n-lock system.

It's the interface that's the problem. A good rock-n-lock magazine system requires a very shallow mag well and a severe flare on the outside.
