Federal Nyclad ammo?

I am looking for 38+P ammo to shoot out of a 357 snubbie. I have a SP101 and a S&W 60LS on the way. I would love to hear from anyone who has tried it.

Thank You

For a .38 J frame this is just about the best ammunition around. We issue it in +P to our Officers who still carry .38 revolvers. Yes there's still a few around who carry wheel guns.

The Federal Nyclad will be an excellent carry load for both the SP101 and the S&W you mentioned.

I have an SP101 with 3" barrel and have fired the Nyclad out of it as well as out of a model 36.

It will of couse feel mildest in the Ruger as that is the heavier revolver but it will be reasonably controllable in either gun.

I carry the 158gr. +p in my airweight
Centennial. After about 15 rounds at the range it gets uncomfortable real fast. But having that kind of power on tap is quite comforting. The gun handles it quite well as the recoil is fairly straight back into the web of my hand.

OK, I went to the local gun shop and they had 2 boxes of 158 gr. Nyclad. I love the fact that they come in boxes of 50 so you can actually afford to practice with them. When I got to the counter, I asked if they were as good a defense ammo as I have heard, and was told that they dont expand much since they are semi wad cutters, but that the Nyclad hollow points do....are there two kinds of Nyclad? gues I just assumed there was one? These were semi wad cutters.

Thanks.

Seems like I remember hearing that Federal has started marketing Nyclad ammo as LEO. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this.-TR

I wonder why Federal would make their Nyclad ammo Law Enforcement only, that doesn't make any sense at all. Theres nothing special about it and no reason to prohibit its sale to civilians. But when has commona sense ever had much to do when it comes to gun issues?

I don't understand Federal's move, either.

Federal has always treated the Nyclad as a bastard stepchild, which is insane. Properly marketed, it could easily have controlled a significant segment of the defensive handgun market in any number of calibers.

Want to make me FROTH at the mouth in ecstasy?

Offer a .41 Mag. Nyclad loading at about 1,100 fps.

A .45 ACP 200-gr. Nyclad load? Holy hell, I'd probably start carrying a 1911 just to carry that round.

I have NEVER, in over 20 years of going to gun shows and gun shops, found a single box of Nyclad 9mm on the shelves.

Yet, this round seems to have an excellent reputation among law enforcement.

Federal has done a LOT of stupid **** in the past. And it looks like it's continuing now that it's been absorbed by whomever it was who bought them.

The nyclad is a decent round if you can find it however corbon makes some of the fastest 38spl +P one can buy, from a 4" barrel the 110gr clocks 1220fps and the 125gr 1100fps which is 100-150fps faster than the other makers 38's and it very low flash too.Winchester is the easiest 158gr SWCHP +P to find if you want a heavier bullet for your 38.

Hello.

I cannot prove this, but here's what I heard years ago from a fellow at the LASO: Nyclads fired from a P7, which has polygonal rifling, could not be matched up to the pistol that fired it. At that time, the Glocks had not come out and I would guess that there were few unexplained shootings involving P7s especially with Nyclads. Could it be that with the intense popularity of the Glocks, that this has become an issue, one that's not publicized, but one that influenced Federal's decision? I don't know how correct any of the above is, but it is a possibility. A dealer, who does/did carry Nyclad told me that he didn't sell much of the stuff compared to other Federal loadings. Perhaps one or both of these are why?

Best.

Mr. Camp, you may have a point about the rifling, I have heard this before on the web (from you??) but that would not explain pulling the revolver loads, .38 special and .357, from the market. I think I still have a couple of boxes of standard Nyclad 125 grain from when I had an airweight snubby (which I no longer have - I don't *need* one and I got so durned mad at S&W when they "did their thing" that I traded it off. The new ones are darned expensive and I'm not totally enamored of that lock yet and think I'll wait and see.) BTW, I've been finding and buying some really sweet older K-frame .38s for a while now and did get two of the heritage .38's, a nickeled Model 15 and a McGivern Model 15 with six inch barrel. I have somehow now developed a quite nice collection of Model 10's and 15's. Sorry about digressing, but they are nice. I found a 3 inch Model 10-7 SB that was NIB and a Model 10-5 RB two inch that was LNIB and next week pick up a pristine 10-5 nickeled pencil barrel. Anyhow...I liked the Nyclad round, had little problem finding it around here and will miss it if I can no longer find it.

I have no idea, and I was just spreading rumors about nyclads not being marked. I have read that, but only on the internet.

Take it with a grain of salt.
