The only difference is there's a post in the middle of the hydra-shok... it's not there in the hi-shok. Open two windows and compare them at http://www.federalcartridge.com/
Federal's ammo wasn't accurate in my Ruger, so I dropped them. Gold Dots seem to create quite a bit more energy than the Feds... and Hornady's been REALLY good to me.
