Your options are 155gr, 165gr, and 180gr. What would you choose and why? I'll be using them for both Home Defense and Conceal Carry. I live in apartments with children so over-penetration is a big issue, but i also want to make sure it penetrates deep enough to hit the Vitals if a 350lb guy comes breaking in... Now general logic would say, choose the median, but i thought i'd run it by TFL to see what those who have used them think.

The Caliber is .40 S&W

Any of the three will penetrate an interior wall and retain enough energy to be fatal to the person on the other side. That being the case, I'd opt for the 180grn as that's standard weight for the caliber and likely what the sights on most guns will be regulated for.

180gr. Like previously said all three will penetrate. Shot placement, proper target ID, and knowing what's behind the target are key. If you really don't want something that will over penetrate get some frangibles.

Which is least prone to failure and most accurate in your gun, in that order?

TBO I could care less about bullet weight.

From everything I've read, the medium weight (155, 165gr) are the top performers. Hydra Shoks are great, but I think there are some better choices these days, even from federal, such as their HST line.

Pretty much anything thats going to penetrate deep enough to be a reliable "stopper", has a chance of penetrating walls.
