Federal HST

LE Only on box - What does that really mean??

According to AmmoToGo, the LEO warning is a company policy (Federal), not a law. I dont know for sure. I do know it has been my carry ammo for around 9 months and I have really come to like and depend on it.

+1 on ATG. I just got 500rds of 147g HST last week. I ordered it and had it at my door in 8 days. I've ordered from them a few times before and they have always been excellent.

kayakersteve is correct. A few companies make Law Enforcement lines of ammo, and market them only to law enforcement agencies. This carries no force of law, as the only handgun ammo that the federal government has prohibited is high explosive and armor piercing (even though we can be trusted with AP rifle ammo:confused:). Of course, states have spoken on that, too; most notably New Jersey with therir hollow point ban. So check your local laws.

If HPs are legal where you are Look around at your local gun stores to see if they sell it to the general public. Some do, some don't. It appears to me that whether they do or not depends on their clout as a buyer. I have a local source that has never winced selling me Winchester Ranger 127gr. +P+, which is the only load in the Ranger line (or any other LE line I've seen for that matter) actually labeled "Law Enforcement Only". But then, they control an affluent chunk of geography,

I recently ordered the HST in 9mm from Tactical Defense Solutions. Mentioned above. Its great ammunition. The only kind I carry. It doesn't have a significant inrease in recoil over my 115 gr FMJ practice ammo. I trust it with my life.

As for the LE only marking, +1 to all who said its legal, and safe. As I understnad, the reason that Federal marks it that way is to seperate it in the market, and target it to LEO's. The ammuniiton I got from TDS was actually ordered by a LE agency, and then cancelled. I ended up with a screaming deal.

Anyway, good luck with it!

Federal HST ammunition does not have any government restrictions, unless your local government has some bizarre law on the books. The LE only statement on the box is a Federal Ammunition rule only. That rule also explains the very low cost compared to other premium ammunition, as it is intended for LEO's.

Until the new administration takes away my right to purchase this ammunition, I will stock up as much as possible.
