I am in process of looking for a good .308 autoloader (now that I just bought Bushmaster AR :) ). I don't want to spend more then $800.

my recommendation is that you check out DSA. they are offering an StG 58 replica on their own receiver for about your price range. Check out www.fnfal.com for some first hand reviews.

I've got a variant of each major .308 rifle (Cetme, STG58, M1A, AR-10) and I've learned one thing:

FALs are the best. They're indescribably simple, easy to scope, accurate enough for what they are, rugged, ergonomic, easy on brass, and cheap. I don't believe that entire list applies to any of the other rifles out there.

DSA Stg-58A for less than $800

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned the FAL yet, (;)) but DS Arms is selling their STG-58A for about $800.

Mike

PS Seriously? I own one and it's sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I can't comment yet on accuracy (minute of coke can, does that count?) but has been reliable for a few hundred rounds now, and the fit and finish is very nice indeed.

Also note how inexpensive mag's are right now at DS Arms ... $5 for used, and $8 for new 20-rounders. Another good reason to take a real good look at FAL's.

Consider buying Boston's Gun Bible ... www.javelinpress.com . He's also a fan of the FAL [how's that for alliteration? ;) ]

Yes I can't say enough good things about the FAL. I have got an IMBEL Fal with the 7 Domestic parts to make it legal. And I love it.
I got a hell of a sweet deal on mine and it shoots, great, functions great with any ammo and as was posted before, the mags and parts are cheap as hell and easy to find

FAL!!!!!!!!

I have to weigh in on the side of the FAL. I have an IAI M444. It is basically an IMBEL (Brazilian) FAL with enough US parts to make it legal. IMBEL is officially licensed by FN and makes a very hight quality product.

The old M444s had crappy Hesse muzzle brakes that actually enhanced felt recoil. The new ones are much improved.

I bought mine for $780. You can probably find them for a bit less.

So far mine has displayed impecable reliability and above average accuracy. I love this rifle and would pit against a DSA any day of the week. One of the things I like about the M444 over the DSA is the chrome lined barrel. That means a longer service life in my book.

You will be happy with either the DSA STG or the IAI M444 so just see which one has the features you want and go for it!

Another plus for the FAL..... $5-8 per 20 rnd. mag. You just can't beat that!:D :D :D
