Federal ammo...

Picked up some Federal Maroon box .40 caliber range fodder (FMJ). After getting it home and loading some mags I noticed something new to me...

It has a warning on the box to not shoot it out of any ported barrels or comps with ports. I have pistols with porting and was wondering why the warning:confused:

Anyone know?

Ported barrels are louder and also direct some of the gases and shaved bullet particles upwards and sideways, possibly endangering bystanders. The ammo is safe to shoot but in this case, it's the lawyers talking in an effort to avoid civil liability.
That's my guess.

Hmm. Have never seen it on any other Federal packages, just this one. I bought some 9mm at the same time, same stuff, no warning.

Call Federal and give them the information on your box. If they give you a valid reason then I would just avoid buying those for your ported barrel use. Most likely it is just some liability thing and nothing to worry about.

My bystanders ALWAYS stand above me. :p

I purchased several different calibers (sale) and none of the others had the warning. Just .40 and it also had a sentence stating that it wasn't for law enforcement use:rolleyes:

That means for duty carry not paper punching duty use is JHP.

Hence the rolleyes smilie. I would think the LE department would decide if that is what they chose to carry not the manufacturing. The "FOR LE USE" is just marketing.

Yep same responce:

The thin plating comes off and can cause discomfort or injury when passing through the compensator, hence the warning do not use in ported barrel or compensator guns.

Thanks
Federal

I asked them about other handgun calibers and no reply to that. So I sent another email regarding what to do with the ammo since my .40 is ported and what about other calibers also. The store will not take ammo back...all sales of ammo are final...

Is it plated or jacketed? There is a difference.
Actual jacketed ammo shouldn't present a problem. Plated ammo on the other hand, might (or might not).
