Federal Ammo.

Well, the ammunition drought has kept me from buying ammo for a good 3 or 4 months. But recently wally world started getting some ammo for my 9mm luger in, but only in the federal brand. Can someone tell me if this ammo is reliable? And how well does the brass reload?

Well, I just posted something in regards to this. And I actually posted it in a SD thread. But my quick keyboard fingers got me into trouble. (Not really, but I sure did feel stupid)

Anyways, I recommend staying away from the Federal Champion brand at Wally World for your 9mm. It's worst ammo for accuracy I've shot since I've owned a 9mm. Reloads included! It's a great price (8.97 for 50 rnds. I think) But me, in my SIG Pro 2022. Which tends to be very accurate for me. Was horrid! Luckily I picked up some Blazers the morning of my range visit. Popped them in... just like clock work dude. Night and day, period...

Now, on another note. I did get my hands on a boat load of it for my .40 s&w. It doesn't seem to be a problem for me in my S&W model 410. Also, the gun I'm most accurate with.

I'm no Billy The Kid, don't get me wrong. But puttin them in the paper anywhere up to 25 yard has never been much of a problem until I experienced this 9mm round. Good price or not, I'll never purchase it again. But I will grab more of the .40 stuff when and if possible.

I say try it in "your" weapon. What do you have to loose? It may run totally different in yours. I hope so for your sake. Maybe if you can get ahold of some maybe fight your urge and only get 2 boxes instead of 6. LOL

What Federal brand? Federal markets ammo under the "American Eagle" series, which is IMO very acceptable range ammo comparable to WWB. But Federal also markets premium brands, and so on, so just saying "Federal" doesn't say enough to let people know what you mean.

P.S. Federal is part of ATK's ammunition empire, which also includes CCI/Speer

The Federal "Champion" is the type WW has atm. Seems to be the same throughout the country. Seen some posts' in here of shooters finding Win. bulk packs. I've yet to see them.

But yeah.... the brand I'm referencing is the "Champion" line. I just seen another post where a gentleman seems to like this ammo for his .9mm. I would assume it's a personal preference. And how your particular weapon likes it. Mine didn't!

IMO, Federal is probably the best factory ammo available. I run a lot of the 100 round Value Packs (Champion) through my BHP. I haven't had an issue with it yet.

Never seen it at my wally world, but I wouldnt be scared to shoot it through my CZ. That thing has shot any ammo I can find, and shoots it accurately so I'd be willing to give it a try if its all you can find..........

I don't care for Federal shotgun shells for some reason. I don't know why, they just don't "look" right to me. They seem to shoot fine but I just don't like them. Their pistol and rifle ammo is first rate though. I don't know about the "Champion" line in centerfire, but the rimfire Champions shoot fine in all my 22's. I wouldn't hesitate to try it.

While we're on the subject of Federal, they make .22 in value packs of 525 and 550. What's the difference? People seem to like the 525 pack better.

I've never had any issue with Federal ammo. I'd suggest buying it and seeing how your gun likes it. I'd guess you won't have any problems with it and it should be good range ammo.

I have shot 500+ rounds of the Walmart Federal Champion 9mm and it is good stuff. I haven't reloaded the 9mm but their .45 acp cases are good. Primer pockets stay tight.

I have shot and reloaded literally tens of thousands of rounds of Federal handgun ammunition in .38special, .357magnum, .41magnum, .44magnum, 9mm and 45acp. It is as good as any others out there and better than most.

Well got the itch, you mentioned sig, which is what I have, so I imagine it probably shoots about the same.

I wish you better luck than I. I've still got 400 rounds of this stuff left. So I've got to at least shoot it. I dunno, perhaps I could have just been something un-consciously when I was shooting this ammo. Everyone else seems to like it! It's not out of the question by any means I suppose. But it's kind of ironic how I dropped a 50 count box of Blazer in my mags. It was like night and day. I also shot my .40 between these 2 different types of ammo. Stating this because of operator error perhaps. LOL

Heck... give it a shot. What do you have to loose... I really hope it shoots well for you. At the price its hard to pass up. I'm going back to the range again this weekend. I post another range report then. Like I said, I could have been doing anyone one of many things un-consciously hindering my aim.

Some guns have ammo preferences for whatever reason.

I remember getting my SKS with some "premium" brass cased South African 7.62 x 39 ammo that everyone was raving about. SKS wouldn't put that ammo within 8" at 100 yards. I thought it was the gun... was mad a heck. Then, for the heck of it, bought some cheap steel cased Wolf. SKS shot like a dream. South African stuff was probably fine... probably better ammo... but that particular gun just didn't like it.

I've been reloading for 20+ years and everytime I throw away a split case it's a Remington. Federal and Winchester cases last forever.

I've been shooting Federal ammunition for most of my life, in almost every caliber, and I cannot say anything wrong about any of it. I have probably shot more Federal .22 LR than all other brands combined. Since I bought my SA XD40 sc I have put 2k of ammo through it, most of it 165 gn Federal American Eagle; dependable, accurate and clean. I carry 155gn XTP Hornady for CCW, but despite the way the latter expands in wet phone books, the American Eagle is just as accurate. :)
