Hey everyone! I've been looking to get some 147gr HST for a while now and can't find it in stock anywhere. I have found the 147gr +P in stock, however I'm unsure of its ballistic performance and haven't seen any data out there on it. Can I rely on this load for a life and death situation? It'd be my main carry load and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I'd be using it in a springfield xd 9sc. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I havent personally experienced any HST ammo. However when it came out I was extremely interested and did some reading. From what I have read and heard it sounds to be an excellent perfoming round in the major pistol calibers. The 147gr. HST is probably a really good round. I cant remember the website but someone did a review on all HST's in 9/40/45. He fired them through denim and ballistics gel. I remember the 9mm's consistently expanding and penetrating 14"+. I believe it may have been the 147gr. or the 124. but it expanded to .67 which is impressive. Clothing doesn't seem to be an issue with these either. I want some in 45ACP but now its just a matter of finding it.

I saw it was on the ammo FAQ at AR15.com for the 147 grain so I trust that part, but I'm not sure if making it +p would make it any worse. Thanks for the help so far!

I am not a ballistics expert, so please take the following for what it's worth:

A short barreled pistol loses some velocity compared to it's full-length brother. Logic tells me that +p will help offset that velocity loss.

Well, that and Newton's Second Law. The recoil difference between a standard round and a +P or +P+ is noticeable. That is not a coincidence. :)

Np, I just wish I still had that link. You could see the tests, as I remember the results were pretty impressive. As for +p ammo I like it and have some but use it scarcely. It operates at a higher pressure so its inherently going to wear parts quicker. I also dont believe +p offer much more performance to the round. It defintley peps up the catridge but I dont think its needed. 147gr. 9mm gets a bad reviews in general. I dont see why I think with the right load the 147gr. 9mm can be a good stopper. 474ft/lbs sounds good to me :).

That's what I shoot out of my M&P9 and M&P9c......IMHO the best hollow point on the market, hands down....

I've noticed they sell to law enforcement officers only and it's considered "law enforcement ammunition". Now if something ever does happen (i pray it never does), and they see that I used this ammunition, will it hurt me in a court case?

Thanks again for the help so far!

M-A-Y-B-E ! ! !

A couple of my guns don't like the 147 gr HST..... so in those guns it's not reliable. However, they like the 124gr HST. ... it feeds better.
