Favorite Varmint rifles over .22"?

Remington 700 VS in .308

I handload Speer 125 gr. TNT HP (deadly on coyotes) and Hornady 110 gr. V-max (deadly on squirrels). I constantly get less than 1 MOA with handloads and varmint bullets.

6.5-06 on a 1916 Haenel Mauser action, Krieger barrel, 59.0gr of H4832SC behind a 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, giving 3200fps. Popped an armadillo in the sphincter at 300 yards during load development, nothing but a scooped-out empty shell and a pink mist left afterwards...

Here in the NE USA it's mostly woodchucks and the occasional fox or crow and ranges are usually under 250 yards, so my .222 Rem. and .223 Rem. single shots are pretty useful. I use the 50-grain Hornady SX in both of those, with either IMR 3031 or H322 powder.
Sometimes, as with baited coyotes over a frozen lake, a little extra is provided by an elderly Rem. 700 ADL in 6mm Remington, using 85-grain Sierra spitzers and IMR 4350. Effective range with this unit is extended to 400 yards or a bit more.
All three of these guns will shoot into a half-minute, within their effective ranges.
I don't think I've ever fired a factory load at a varmint. Experience goes back to 1964.

Humm, let's see. I would have to say my Model 70 Sporter Varmint .308

I load 165 grn STBT with 42 grain or IMR4064 and i will be darned if I can ever find one of them Prairie Poodles. I thought the 4-18x40mm scope was good but heck, I see them and a shoot and when I go check there is nothin there
Maybe the scope is off or something.

Rem 788 308 with 130 grain HP.

Ruger #3 in .223 with 55 grain HP.

Got a CZ550 American in 243 Win. for summer sports waiting for at J & G sales. Anxious to try that out on Coyotes

Got a little tack-driver of a Sako .243, 19" barrel. It loves 60-grain Hornadys or 85-grain Sierras. Coyotes don't.

I use a 110-grain Hornady Spire Point in the '06--it's, er, "effective". Yeah, that's the word.

My favorite was my Grandpa's Remington(unknown model) .25-06. He handloaded, and that thing was a gas on Rockchucks. The gun and Grandpa are long gone, but this topic has me thinking.....

Art, do you know what kind of velocity you're getting from that 19" bl?

----
Anyone else want to 'negotiate'?

Spectre, I've never chronographed it. I've just assumed a loss of around 350 ft/sec or a bit more from 26".

The velocity can, however, be described as "adequate". :)

I have a Win. Sporter Varmit in .308 and many load combinations ready to try. It's like a sniper/varmit rig and will soon sport a 12x Leupold. I have high hopes for this. Also have a Ruger #1 varmit in 300 win mag. Have some loads ready for that also. This gun stuff is definitely a disease - so many bullets so litle time.
