.....I seen a guy on one of the handgun forums try this, so I thought it might be fun.
Out of these catergories, pick the most accurate/comfortable rifle you have OWNED:

1) .22LR

2) .22 to .257" Varmint

3) .264 to .338" Mid to Big Game

4) .416 to .458" Dangerous Game

I would like to see if there is common ground on action vs. caliber.

22lr.....winchester 52

22 to 257.....custom built 22-250 on mauser action

264 to 338....tough one here, have two, remington 700 264 win mag & a ruger #1 in 338/06.

416 to 458.......NEF handi-rifle in 45/70 most fun & custom built rem 700 in 404 jeffery most accurate.

I have several single shot rifles in various calibers but the above are my most accurate guns

#1 77/22 I guess
#2 never owned one
#3 Remington 721 in .300 H&H
Win. M70 Super Grade in .338 Win. Mag.
#4 Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 (only one above .338 I've ever owned)

Subby

1- Ruger 10/22 RSI (Mannlicher stock), not too accurate, but veeery comfortable and a pleasure to shoot...
2- Never owned one.
3- Lee-Enfield No4 Mk1*, stock oddly fits me so well, it's just sweet.
4- Am scrounging quarters and dimes to offer me a 45/70 guide gun...

1. Marlin 39 lever action. Not the most accurate but far and away the most comfortable.
2. Ruger 250 Savage ultralight. Again for comfort, used more for "small" big game.
3. Remington 700, 7mm-08. The do everything gun.
4. The next encounter with a black bear while hunting will be my first. Given that that is about the mast dangerous game I'm likely to run into I have no DG rifle in inventory.

Okay ...

1. a Ruger 10/22, with custom barrel - highly accurate.

2. a VERY accurate "out-of-the-box" .223 MarK X "Mini Mauser" (I've seen very few of these around).

3. Sorry, but this one's a tie: A Ruger #1 in 300 H&H, and a customized BRNO 602 in .375 H&H. Both are beautiful AND shooters.

4. Still looking, but for dangerous game I'd take the .375 BRNO without thinking twice. 5rds of 300gn .375 H&H in the drop magazine, plus 1 in the chamber, should be sufficient "Big Medicine" for any critter I'm likely to hunt on this planet.

For the record...

........mine are:

1) Ruger 10/22T - the only gun I've bought brand new.......and
the one I shoot the most, by far.

2) Howa 1500 in .223 - my callin' rifle.

3) Winchester M70 in .30-' 06 - my deer rifle.

4) never owned one yet, but thought I'd better not exclude those
who had.....

Thanks for the responses.........

I'll bite...

1) .22LR: Remington 481 bolt gun. Barrel trimmed to 16" and scoped with a real scope.

2) .22 to .257" Varmint: Only have the one. A Remington 700 VS in .22-250. Still working on loads for it.

3) .264 to .338" Mid to Big Game: Hard to say... have a M96 Swede Mauser in 6.5x55 that shoots less than 6" offhand at 100 yards. Also, a 1917 Eddystone in .30 Improved that prints 3" or less at 200 yards off a rest.
The Swede's the stalking rifle and the .30's the stand rifle.

4) .416 to .458" Dangerous Game: Only thing in this class is another 1917 Eddystone in 35 Whelen. 250 grain RNSP bullets at 2600 into 1.5 " at 100.

22lr: Marlin M60 Semi-Auto

.22-.257: 24" Stainless Colt Accurized Rifle AR15 Semi-Auto

.264-.338: Two here, Remington 700LSS in 7mm Ultra Mag and Remington VS in .308 Bolt Actions

.416-.458: Marlin 1895M in 450 Marlin Lever Action

I have many other rifles in the above calibers, but prefer these.
