Favorite full size 9mm for light compeition

I have my eye on the G34 or the SP01 Phantom..

When I say competition its nothing serious, I take some tactical courses with buddies and just want something bigger than my G19.

Any other suggestions to look into?

I think that your choice of a G34 is a good one. It’s not the perfect gun but it has a lot going for it. The one in the photos has been modified in that it has a new trigger, a Glock edge comp trigger which is the best Glock trigger I have ever fired and not safe for carry (4 pounds). Wolf barrel so I can shoot lead and the Trijicon sights you can see.
I hear a lot of bad things about the Glock “hump” but personally I don’t know what they are talking about.
What I like about the gun.
With the original barrel it was very accurate, a lot more than I am. The Wolf was well worth the money but with the cuts on the front of the barrel a lot of smoke (lead lube) fly’s up in front of the face, not a real problem but when you stand next to someone shooting the gun its surprising. The removable back strap, the one that has a beaver tail is the best thing I have ever felt on a Glock.
Don’t like.
If I try to do a one hand mag release which is how I reload a 1911, I have to rotate the 34 in my hand to get a good purchase on the mag release. With this gun I have to drop the mag with the weak hand then go for the second mag. My early gen 26 I don’t.
Reliability. It will fire and cycle anything factory including the wolf barrel. When I first started firing the gun I had a lot of failures, stove pipes and feeds with lead reloads. This was not the guns fault it was the power level of the rounds. I have a 124 grain Penn bullet load with Win 231 that is very accurate and will function in a Beretta carbine, MP5, and every other 9mm I own including a 26. But they will not function reliably in my 34. I had to increase my load level with that bullet. It’s still well below max but I am at a loss on the difference with this gun. And it does this with the factory or Wolf barrel.
My one suggestion is if you decide on the G34 spend the extra money and get the MOS system. I just wish they offered it when I bought mine. I am planning on sending my slide to Wolf and have it cut for a red dot.
Just remember pick whatever fits you the best and ignore all recommendations.

Walther PPQ is about the same size as a G19 but it runs. The ultimate is the new PPQ Q5. Unbelievable right out of the box.

My personal favorite is a 1911.../ ....and I prefer a 5" barrel, full size, with ambi-safety and a speed chute or mag well. .... ( lots of options out there ...on a budget or at the higher end....Springfield, Sig -- to Wilson combat. My choice is Wilson combat Protector model in all stainless - my 2nd choice would be their CQB model..../ on lower end probably STI...

If I wanted a double stack gun it would be a Sig 226 or Sig X-Five model....

I have a Gen3 G-17 and a CZ 75B, and if I were taking a tactical course I'd probably want to bring both guns.

Although I don't compete, I'd highly recommend an M&P Pro 5" if you want to try something new. They are fantastic guns.

Just picked up a Taurus PT92C. Would that work?

The Taurus PT 99 might be better---it's the one with adjustable sights and for any kind of target work I'd like the full size---the better to soak up recoil and longer sight radius.

I own a Gen3 and Gen4 G34, both have been very reliable with very good accuracy. Not quite as accurate as my Les Baer PII but I'm very satisfied.

Don't have a preference for either one of my G34's as both triggers are good. I use the medium back strap on the Gen4, which is in essence a Gen3 grip.

Many many IPSC shooters use Glocks.
There must be a reason for it, even if I would never buy a Glock.
I have a kind of CZ baby eagle clone which is a Bul Cherokee ful size. Shot with it over six years without any problems. So, the original one, CZ, might be much better, and a lot of winning shootets use CZ s.

I have started with Sig this year. Purchased a wonderfull P226. But am shooting only six months. Very reliable gun I must say. But somehow I am not as fast as I wss with the Bul.

Taurus, Beretta, I guess they have not the best reputation in my local IPSC scenario.

My vote would be CZ

The SP-01 is probably my favorite and is literally on every "buy/favorite" list/post I've ever read but I want a flat slide near the back in case I want to mill it for a red dot so P-01 will probably be the ticket

Sig X-Five. It's really just that much better than any other gun I have for speed and accuracy. This is compared against:

Custom STI 2011 ported/hybrid barrel system .45
Tanfoglio Stock 10mm
Belgian Hi-Power
CZ 75B
Steyr GB (fixed barrel)
Glock 17
S&W 659
Colt NM Gold Cup, Series 80

Thank you smee78, when I bought it I was going for a black 34 but when I saw the two tone it worked for me.
