whats your favorite black powder cartridge to shoot?

i just loaded up some .45/70 govt. classic. except i used 70gr pyrodex ff instead of black powder.

its my first black powder cartridge for my guns.

i should get to shoot some tomorrow.

44-40 loaded with GOEX, Swiss, Scheutzen, KIK, Grafs, Pinnacle, T7, or APP. Use them all. Use it in Henry, ;73 Win, '66 Win, AWA Lightning, and Uberti Cattlemen

Me too on the 44-40 but don't use T7, Pyodex etc. Just Black.
Works pretty good for the Armys too.

45-70 - 701/2 gr swiss 1.5 - 530gr 30-1 lyman postel. 1234 fps. Works great out to 1,000 yds. 40-65 a close second but would not use it in the creedmore match. Creedmore 800-900-1,000 yds.

45-70 actually only BP cartridge I shoot for this.

.38-40 in great great grandpa's 1884 Colt Lightning. Also, .32 S&W Short in an H&R "American".

How about shotgun? I shoot 2 1/2" BP shells in my dad's old SxS Janssen and Sons 12 gauge. One of these days I'm going to have to start loading my own. BP shotgun shells are too doggone expensive!

I've never used BP substitute...I kind of like the smoke, flame, smell and stunned looks that I get from the other guys at the range.

It'd have to be the 45-70 since I shoot them more than anything else. Second place, though, goes to the 577-450 Martini-Henry cartridge.
