Favorite 7mm Rem guns, loads, & stories?

:) Here is one. Sweet sevens - 7x57, and to a lesser extent, 7.08 are perfect hunting calibers. The 7x57 in a modern action, any of those used in 7.08, may be handloaded to levels of eficiency that surpass the 08, and with less pressure. a 7 mm. bullet of 175 grains at 2500 fps give results in game much beyond numbers may sugest, and if the bullet is a pointed one, like hornadys, the trajectory is a pleasant surprise. with heavy bullets the 7x57 has a definite edge over the 08.
Hardworking sevens - 280 rem, 7x64 brenneke, are not noticeable different - in field use - than the magnums, be them remington or weatherby. I have no experience with hot items like lazzeronis and the like, but I have no use for them in the general hunting world, and besides, I really enjoy stalking.

My favorite caliber is .280 Rem. Many years ago, I bought a new Rem. Model 725 in the then new .280 Rem., and loved it. Since then, I've killed elk down to ground squirrels with it, and never have been dissatisfied with it.

I liked the .280 Rem. enough to have Frank Pachmayr build me a from-the-ground-up Pachmayr Custom in .280 Rem., on a cherry 1909 DWM Argentine Mauser action, 22" Apex bbl., Canjar trigger, etc., in 1978. Mr. Pachmayr walked me through his wood warehouse and helped me pick out the piece of Circassian Walnut, for the stock.

It, and my old Rem. 725, will both shoot 3/4" groups, when I do my part.

FWIW. J.B.

Shot 7 mm Rem.Mag. friend's rifle one time. Here is what impressed me - 2"x2" steel plate, 5/16" thick, welded to the rod, rod stuck into the ground a couple of inches..Now, I'm making shot at 100 yards. Soft-point bullet (!!!) went through the plate, and plate didn't move at all. Hole was round, with some tracers
of bullet jacket left at the edges, but it looked like it was "burned"
thru the metal, not punched...
