What are some of the favorite defensive loads out there for a 4" barrel .357 magnum?

125gr JHP from Corbon will do around 1400fps out of a 4" bbl.

Hello. In a full-sized revolver or for one not recoil-sensitive, I think that the full-house 125 gr JHP from Remington or Federal is tough to beat. A sort of mid-range loading is Remington's 125 gr Golden Saber: It averages 1151 ft/sec out of my S&W M27's 3 1/2" bbl. Best.

The only ammo I carry in my .357 is Federal 125 gr. I believe the boxes are now labeled, Federal Classic Hi-Shok.

For 6" S&W686+, 158-gr JHPs are great, as the y make less bang and muzzle flash than loads with lighter bullets.

I like Winchester's 145gr Silvertip. It averages around 1220 from my 4" Python and will give me a bit more penetration that the 125 gr bullets without sacrificing expansion.
