Faster sights for eyeglass user's USPC

I use glasses and cannot focus as fast between different distances as I did when I was younger (I am 41 now). When drawing and shooting my HK USP Compact it sometimes takes a while (sub-second, but feels like an eternity) to find the front sight between the rear notch. Loose time in competition, and could get me killed in a real situation.

Finding the front sight immediately is a must, but since the front sight is quite wide in HK USPC with just a little air in both sides between the rear sight blade that makes me a little slower. A more open sighting system would probably be faster for me (for example Makarov's thin front blade feels faster), but opening up the rear more is not the answer.

Does anyone know someone making a narrower front sight for USPC than the original? Also, would getting a glowing front sigth (but with nonglowing rear) make finding front sight faster? A thinner front sigth with a glowing insert could be best. Does anyone make them? All suggestions are welcome (but no optical sights please).

Ossi, just reduce the width of your front sight. My eyes are not what they were either. I have mixed emotions about the hi-viz front sights. Most seem a little fragile.

ossi,
Im in the same boat with ya...my eyes suck anymore, but I have no choice but to open up the rear sight or to narrow the front blade, depending how much you want to take off a good gun smith could possibly remove enuf, or just buy a thinner front blade,,,,,ive tried the hivitz light tubes and they do stand out brightly in light, but are no good in the dark or dusk. Its my understanding that they are coming out with a light tube combined with a tritium dot, that might be your answer,,,although I dont know if they have them yet or when they will be out......fubsy.

Same problem, different eyes.

What I've done is to put Millett orange-ramp fronts on all my wheels, a Caspian big-rod optic front / ghost-ring rear on my 1911 (love it!), and yellow BrightSights paint on all my other autos (yes, I know I'm supposed to carry one).

Regardless of width, the increased visiblity helps.

Son't raise the bridge, lower the river!

I wear tri-focals. Now, if the sights are sharp, and the target is a little bit blurred, you're still in very good shape to hit and hit quickly.

So, I have my eye-goggle folks put an add-on very-small lens in the upper inside corner of the lens over my aiming-eye. It gives the same correction as the center part of my glasses, which is very sharp at the length of my arms. It is in line with the sights when I go into my Weaver stance. It also works fairly well with iron sights on a rifle.

Hope this helps, Art
