Farmers Branch TX new range vote TONIGHT

Farmers Branch city council is voting TONIGHT on a proposed location for a new shooting range.

How can residents and non-residents help move this along?

Farmers Branch shares a school district with Carrollton, if that makes a difference.

You can get as many people to show up in support of the range as is possible. You can bet the anti-gunners will show up in mass numbers to oppose it. It is as simple as that.

Good Luck

The proposal was voted down due to proximity to a school. Frankly, I'm surprised the developers moved forward at all once they realized the school was in opposition.

I have no idea whether or how soon the city of FB allows developers to reapply for zoning once it's rejected. OTOH if I were the developers, I would find another potential location that's further from a school; the neighborhood is zoned Light Industrial, so this would not have been news at all if it weren't for the proximity issue.

Lastly, take note that FB city gov't is not exactly a hotbed of left-wing political sentiment; the reverse is arguably true. I don't think the proposal's defeat had anything to do with a desire to promote gun control in general.

I hear ya carguychris. I hope they didn't spend lots of money already. This might have been a ploy to get incentives to open in another location within the city of Farmers Branch.

It seems some important info was left out though. The school is moving in 2 years. I guess it was not mentioned during the meeting. The vote was a close loss against the range at 3-2. City council's don't like to be tricked.

My recent dealings with another city council was a learning experience. With the backing of a single, respected council person, our plan was approved in spite of current restrictions. Granted, we were not talking about a gun range.

This was brought up on channel 11 a few minutes ago.

Some of you are more experienced in these matters. What do you think?

Doubtful. I'm not a FB resident, but it's my understanding that the FB city government is not exactly swimming in extra cash, and even most relatively rich North TX cities don't bother with tax incentives unless the business in question is big enough to substantially increase the city's sales tax or employment base. This would not be the case with a smallish public shooting range.

I dunno if it was mentioned in the meeting, but it was certainly mentioned in almost every press report about the proposal.

2 years is long enough that the school would be there when the range opened. Also, another article mentioned that the move had been delayed previously, and that the current 2-year plan was in the conceptual stage, so the move could potentially be delayed again.

I don't know enough about the proposal in specific or FB city politics in general to make any additional comments.

My wife and I discussed this after seeing the news. We would have been very surprised has the CC allowed the range to go ahead.

Once the school is gone, then there should be no problems for a gun range, but just because the school has "plans" to move in 2 years does not mean that it will move in 2 years and in the 2 years until that will happen, it will still be a school.
