are the fal's like those by j and g for around $489.00 a "good" rifle ? is the quality good or a hit and miss thing ?
 
Hit or miss. Make sure you get one built on an Imbel receiver and you should be ok, but you never know, it may need to be tweaked by a 'smith. Still a bargain though.
 
The one I got from J&G worked but, well, may of them did not. Just lucked out. Still I took it to a gunsmith, Arizona Expert Arms, who specializes in rebuilding these guns and had it completely redone. Some of the parts were swapped out. Some were worked over. Don't really know the details. Cost more than the gun.
