FAL's and Kodiak ALaska

I'm up here in Kodiak ALaska and got my SAR48 that I picked up from my buddy in Anchorage a few days ago on my way to Kodiak. I am working at the south end of Kodiak Island where the Bears and other wild life roam free, so we carry "heat" when we are out here as we are in the extreme wilderness areas to support the rocket launch we are doing here. Here is a pic of me today with my SAR 48 out in the boonies of Kodiak Alaska. This was taken at 1000 am and it was cold but not to bad, about 34 degrees F.

Will be doing some shooting tomorrow after work. Love those FAL's! Isn't this place awesome! Haven't seen any bears yet, but the security guards saw some saturday scarfing on a calf down by the beach! The best part, I'm getting paid to do this!

Hey Rock,

Your going to need more heat than that for a large Kodiak Brown...Nice rifle BTW.

Are you there in support of Northern Edge?

I'm on my way to Kodiak today myself to work a commercial fishing trade show. I'm usualy there a couple times a year. Great place. I thought they already fired that rocket. A couple years a go I met some construction guys working the site. Enjoy!

A .308 is not a brown bear rifle. When you do see one you'll understand why that is. You'll just wound him, and wounded bears are a nasty business - somebody could get killed, maybe you...
The road system bears here on the north end of the island (where the rocket facility is) are extremely shy of humans and pretty well-behaved. The road system can be hunted with an over-the-counter tag (no drawing), so they are pretty shy and almost totally nocturnal - "trained" bears.

Put your FAL away and get some pepper spray.

The Dolly Vardens will be running the beaches in another 4-6 weeks. You can get some fantastic fishing right along the stretches adjacent to the launch facility. Try some 1/8th oz silver "crocodiles" or "Cast-Masters".
