FAL: To scope or not to scope.

I saw that DSarms seems to have a really nice scope mount that replaces the dust cover on the FAL.
Wat do you al think f Mounting a spe on the FAL. is it worth it? or should I just stick with iron sites?

Add the scope. I just did (see my reply on the "FAL Love at First Sight" thread).

Seriously, you've got a rifle with some serious effective range. Unless your eyesight is a heckuva lot better than mine (and mine's not bad), you run out of vision long before you run out of effective range.

I threw a little Leupold 3-9x35 on it for now, hope to play with it in a 2-3 weeks (just went to the range yesterday, can't get back immediately). But I'd really like to get an Elcan! But not this week :)

I'm kinda going through the same debate, and I don't even own a FAL- yet. I'm stuffing the piggy bank for a DSA FAL to be purchased early next year (side note: anyone know how much lead-time DSA requires on production? Should I get an order in soon to pick it up early next year?).

On the one hand I'm a firm believer in Mr. Murphy, and its really hard for Murphy's Law to affect iron sights. Also, I'm not sure of the utility of a scope on a battle rifle...not having any real experience with such animals.

On the other hand, a scope like the ELCAN or some similar device would seem to be soldierproof...and danged if that wouldn't give that rifle some serious reach-out-and-touch-someone ability.

I dunno.

Thoughts on this subject? I admit to being totally ignorant of the pros and cons of both sides...except for the rather painfully obvious ones I just mentioned.

Bear in mind that since the FAL already has iron sights on it, mounting a scope will not dprive you of their use. You can remove and remount the scope easily if you use the right rings.
The Leupold QRW series is ideal for this.
I use them with my FAL with DS Arms mount, which currently wears a Leupold M8 6x scope.
I had a 6.5-20X on it before, but that lives on another rifle now. The fixed 6X scope is about ideal for my purposes with this particular rifle.

The efficacy of having a scope available for use on a battle rifle is proven and desirable. It broadens the potential mission roles and effective range of the weapon quite dramatically.
Don't delay.
Scope today.

You can't hit what you can't see. With my older eye's I have a problem getting the front sight and the target in the same picture. A Burris 4 power scope makes all the difference in the world to me. I never have to change scope power and the Burris has been rugged enough to tolerate my handling.
A precise shot is better than firepower but with a scope on a Fal you have both.
