FAL stock - HELP!

Hi y'all! I just bought a L1A1 "sporter" with an Imbel receiver (thanks to the advice I found here). HOW do I get that thumbhole stock off it. I bought another stock kit, but the grip doesnt have a place for that weird hinge thingy from the trigger. I got the screw out of the buttstock (and the springs) and the screw out of the hinge thingy, but the stock won't pull off. What am I missing here? and what other things will I need to install the new one? thanks in advance.

If it's an L1A1 clone and the pistol grip have a flat plate along its leading edge, it would have a screw under that plate that threads into the receiver from the bottom. That screw would have to come out before the thumbhole stock comes off.

It sounds like you bought a metric pistol grip (being as that the front of the pistol grip is smooth, lacking the metal plate), but you'll need the inch pattern version.

on the L1A! (inch pattern) receiver. the thumbhole stock comes off by removing the screw that is located inside of the lower receiver.
first you must remove the plunger spring assy for the hammer. then rotate the safety lever until you can pull it out from the left side. but take a look at the safety. qiute a few of the inch pattern ones have a cotter pin going through them. this must first be taken out, or you ar going to be jerking around and not be able to remove it. then you will see the screw that holds the buttstock in. also you need to remove the trigger guard (not to take stock off) but to reuse it and the trigger plunger for the p/grip. as noted above you may have a metric p/grip. if so contact either brad @ gunthings or dan@vow. both of these guys are very standup in their business and sell only what they advertise (if they say it is new of in good condition) that is what you will get.
brad has used original parts while dan@vow is selling new us mfg parts. go to http://www.fnfal.com to find these guys listed in the vendor section. also go to the forums section and browse. if i recall dan is now offering a us made hammer triger/ sear set up for the inch pattern guns.

Pariah, my understanding is that if you change to a pistol grip, you must change 7 tems over to US parts. However, CAI turned the threads off the barrels, and that might drop your parts change to 6 since you have no "muzzle attachment."

thanks guys

Thanks guys, I have found that the only sane way to do this is replace the lower receiver and load up with american parts. I have also found out it is better to but the metric rifle in the first place. live and learn, still a very good rifle.

Don't shortchange the inch FAL. They are good guns. Metric may have cheaper mags and more parts, but the inch guns have the cool folding cocking handle, and their mags, though twice as much are sturdier than the standard. Plus, you can use metric mags in an inch gun. (only they rattle around a little bit).

I have a CAI L1a FAL, and I'm going to swap out the thumbhole for the DSA thumbhole. Check http://www.dsarms.com They have dragunov style stocks for inch and metric, much comfier than the century model.
