FAL scope mount

Anyone use the one from Brownells that replaces the dust cover? Looks like it would lose it's zero every time I cleaned the gun.

Greetings, sir. The only scope mount I've used on an FAL that did NOT lose its zero is the "South African" marketed by DS Arms. All of the slide in's seem to change poi vs poa everytime the weapon's cleaned or the dust cover moved.......as you note. The SA model uses allen heads or screws to stay tight, but is not as bulky as other versions. Best.

We've had several discussions on this topic. Use the search engine with fal scope mount using all exact words (or something to that effect). The, thread entitled Scope & Mount SAR FN FAL, 308, advise has a member (Gattling) who designed his own mount. Now this is a mount that won't lose zero as it is a receiver mount, not a dust cover mount. I hope he's gotten it refined to the point he desired. It looks like a winner if he ever decides to commercially produce it.

What did you decide on? This is actually a good Idea to me. I looked up stuff that people asked before and I'm trying to get answers on what worked out for them. I'm hoping to get an Fal soon but I'm going back and forth on what to get. I know I want to scope it and have one that can hit out past 600yds without problems. I can do it with my Model 70 30/06 but never tried it with a Semi-auto. I'll need a Scope and Hopefully I'll get a good package deal.

I decided on.........

Iron sights.

Sorry, but it would take alot of time and $ to scope my rifle to my satisfaction, so I just left it alone. Still fun to shoot!

Oh wait, maybe this'll work...

If I were to use the fancy-shmancy vB code for my above post, I'd probably do it like this:

Based on the opinions of the folks at The FAL Files I'm ordering the DSA FAL mount for my STG58. It seems to be a favorite over there.

AHA! Take THAT you vB hyperlink code!!! (stupid quotation marks, grrr...)

Is there an Unrelibility problem with FAL scope mounts or something? I hear ya on the money thing but I thought FAL's would be made to be scoped? I've been threw a hell of a time with my SKS scope mounts. Anyone else have any input on this? Now I'm getting the Jitters

Do you have to take that Scope mount off every time you clean the gun Boing?

Ahhh I didn't want to hear that!! I'm a cheater and prefer scopes over iron sights in most cases. I don't want to have to go threw the frustration I had with my SKS scope mount. Now I'm starting wonder if I should go back to the SpringField Armory sight and stare at the M1A's. There too damn much money! I bought a Mini 14 because I didn't have money for an AR. Although I'm actually happy with that choice.

The FAL dustcover just isn't made to fit rock-solid on the receiver. Put a scope mount on one, and well...

The DSA mount, as mentioned, has set-screws that clamp the dust-cover/scope mount in place, keeping the zero true. Since my STG will be my only scoped rifle, and first scope on anything, I decided to spend the extra bucks the first time around.

Sorry, SodaPop...I haven't got the mount yet. Haven't even ordered it.

Rapid-fire post and response...we should be doing this in a chat room.

:)

Well Why don't you shoot it this week and get back to me on how it went. I can't make up my mind about this. I'm looking up about 50 sites right now on FAL's and Scope mounts.

Dave, when you refer to gunsmithing, are you talking about the DSA mount? They claim "Requires no gunsmithing"....?

Welcome to the chat room, Soda. By now I should have you thoroughly confused. I know I am. :)

Rule of thumb: More accuracy costs more money. Some exceptions apply, I suppose...

I have the DSA mount on my FAL. I usually do not remove it for cleaning as the FAL operates pretty clean, although, I have removed and reinstalled it before with no noticable change in zero. Just make sure the plate/receiver interface is clean and degreased (I dry everything off with alcohol), and that the mount is tapped fully forward before you crank down the screws.
