FAL or G3 Clone Help me decide!

Was in another shop today and they have a used FAL that is built on an Imbel reciever for 800 out the door. Then I look just below it and they have a Springfield G3 clone that already has the picinany(sp?) rail for the scope mount and it is brand new for 1000. If I put a scope mount on the FAL that will bring the price up to 900. From a distance the two look identical. The G3 has a better looking rear peep sight and the furniture is a nice light green. Should I blow the extra cash for the G3 or save myself a little green and get the Fal. I am going to get one of them but I need some input from some of you guru types out there. I looked into the DSA Fal but the impression that I got from the couple of dealers that I talked to that I would get a soaking on that one. Plus with the rifle already in the shop I can put it on layaway and not kill my wallet all at once.

Unless the $800 Imbel receiver'd FAl in the gunshop is a DSA kit rifle, then they're asking too much. You can get an Imbel Rec'd FAL for right are $500 all day long from several wholesalers. Concerning the "soaking" you would suposedly get from a DSA rifle, you need to determine whether theey were talking about the DSA SA58 made of entirely new entirely USA parts that goes for $1300 + or the the new DSA kit guns that have a dealer price of $795. Many (including me) think that the DSA kit gun for $795 is the best FAL deal going right now.

Oh, and concerning the G3 vs. FAL question...revently on the G3 boards they had the same question...roughly 90% of the G3 fans chose the FAL over the G3...they owned both.

I'd go for an Imbel receivered FAL over a Federal Arms receivered HK clone any day. I have real reservations about the durability of that aluminium HK receiver.

I'd take the FAL, but the price is way high. The FAL field strips more easily, and magazines cost a third of what G3 mags cost.

The Springfield G3 clone is way overpriced. As much of an HK fan as I am, I'd go with the FAL clone over any HK clone out there.
just my $.02

So what would be a good price on a G3 clone if it is new? and what is the possible problems with and alumminum reciever as it appears to me that the Armalites are machined out of aircraft alloy which is usually made mostly of alumminum. I am still searching for the right piece of hardware. I am now starting to look into an AR 10 just to add some more selection.

You shouldn't pay more than the $600-$700 range.
As for what's wrong with the aluminum reciever? Nothing really, it's the way the put the barrel and trunion into it. They don't do a very good job of keeping the centerline of the bore and the reciever on the same axis. Makes them hard to unlock and they want to shoot around corners :)
