From the threads I've scanned, these all seem to be quality items. A few questions though. are the STG mags interchangeable with anything else? I saw that Federal Arms receivers are not great, but how about one of their STG58's with an Imbel receiver?
The HK has a different type of action than the FAL, Is one inherently better? Thanx!

An STG-58 is a metric pattern FAL.

G3 mags are $20 - $50.

FAL mags are $8 - $12.

I like FAL's for ease of takedown, mag prices, lots of info on the web, easier on brass if I ever decide I want to reload (G3's really chew up brass on extaction).

Hurry; the ban is upon us.

Get the FAL clone. They are much cheaper than a G3 ($6500+) and about half as much as an HK-91 ($2000+). You can also pick up a pre-ban SAR-48 for about $1600. Mags are ~$10 each.

There are a lot more good FAL parts, particularly barrels, out there than there are for the G3/HK-91. The parts for FALs are also considerably less expensive.

The FAL is gas operated by a short stroke gas piston. The gas piston and gas plug get filthy, but the action stays very clean.

The HK-91/G3 is recoil operated, using a delayed blowback system. The chamber area gets very filthy.
