Fake wood on shotguns?

I think that I read somewhere that Beretta is using some sort of simulated wood on some of their shotgun models that is so good that you can not tell the difference other than it is too perfect. Also possibly the Ruger Red Label although their catalog says that it is american walnut. Could not find anything in Berettas catalog. Anybody hear of this?

There is a wood built up of laminations that is difficult to tell from solid wood, it looks good, has excellent stability, and also is quite expensive, I doubt Beretta would use it on anything but a higher grade gun as it is no cost savings, and no, this is not an urban legend.
