Facts you can use with your anti-2nd Amendment friends

While called gun facts, many of the "facts" are interpretational. The first one that the crime rate fell in every state where concealed carry laws were enacted is a good example. In the last couple of decades, any states enacting such laws were doing so in a downward national crime trend anyway. For example, crime was falling in Texas during the years preceding enactment and simply continued on the same trend. CCW law did not cause crime to go down. It didn't even cause the crime rate to fall faster. Heck, in the same year, the crime rate went down in New York and Chicago after Texas enacted its law. Does that FACT mean concealed carry laws work so well as to influence place more than 1000 miles distant?

Similarly interesting was the information on page 11 that 80% of self defense with guns was with concealable guns and a quarter of gun defenses occurred away from home. These "facts" were to refute the myth that we don't need concealable weapons. Tricky stuff - the fact that 80% of self defense was done with a concealable gun doesn't mean we need concealable guns. It just means most people use guns like handguns that can be concealed. Hell, every cop I know carries a concealable gun, just worn openly. The statistic that 25% of gun self defense takes place away from the home sounds a little more useful, but you don't know how much of that happens with concealed guns and how much doesn't.

There is some good information in the list, but there is some careful massaging of information to sway the reader as well. These are not all facts that are clearly supportive by any stretch

Well, the tactics of the Left are to "declare" facts that aren't verifiable, so I see nothing wrong with muddying up THEIR "facts" with other "facts" that tend to cancel them out.

CCW law did not cause crime to go down.
When the "shoot carjackers on sight, no questions asked" law was passed in Florida, the carjacking declined dramatically!!!

When Florida became the first state to recognize the "right to carry" the crime rate went down an estimated 31%!!!!

That's why the other 30 some-odd "Right to Carry" states adopted a similar law!!

If the crime rate was already down in Texas or elsewhere, then the effect would naturally not manifest itself as clearly...

But to say "right to carry" didn't make a significant contribution???
I think that contribution is far greater than we might be led to believe...

It stands to reason that a criminal who knows you are armed, will try to rob someone else!!

If he thinks you can kill him, he will disappear into the woodwork with the rest of the cockroaches...

Make no mistake, whether the CWP's reduce crime, or contain it... they make a significant contribution to less crime...

As for New York... Bernard Guetz fought back... and ask the New York Police what that did to New York crime rates for the six months following. Especially Subway crime!!

See the book "More Guns, Less Crime" by the enonomics statistician, John Lott.

Does that FACT mean concealed carry laws work so well as to influence places more than 1000 miles distant?
Of course it does... That's like asking if a television show in America influences the mindset of people thousands of miles away from America.

Absolutely...

For one thing it changes the mentallity of all Americans when a Bernard Guetz fights back...

At the very least, it emboldens the rest of us when that kind of information is publicized...

The influence of Floridas gun laws has reached 30+ other states and is still working in several others...

Of course it does... :)

FACT: Since the passage of Florida's CCW laws, attacks on males who wear their shirts untucked and on the outside of their shorts have dropped by XX%.

:D

Likely true.....;)

And yes, it does influence the crime rate 3000 miles away.
Crooks can ride buses, airplanes, and, they even have cars.
Safest place in the US to commit a crime? SAN FRANCISCO!!!
48% jury conviction rate, liberal laws, and, a current battle over a law, passed by San Franciscans, that it's illegal to even own a handgun in San Francisco!!!

Yes, if you are a criminal, San Fran should be your home.

PS
The only really effective law in this state has been three strikes. You get a strike for a home burglary, but not for a business, so, rob businesses, not homes...
