extractor mods, how necessary are they

I am in the process of having a 7MM-08 custom built with a Rem 700 donor action. The two most common extractor mods that is done is either the Sako style or the M-16. Now a previous custom rifle I had built was done with the Sako style extractor and I'm satisfied with it. This new rifle is not a dangerous game rifle, just a good North American deer rifle. So here are two questions that I am asking myself.
1. Which is the better extractor, Sako or M-16?
2. Has anyone ever heard that the Remington extractor has a problem and breaks often?
I own several Rem 700's and haven't broke one yet, and none of my shooting friends to my knowledge have had one brake.
Thanks, and looking forward for your input.

Not ever owning/shooting/seeing a Sako, nor owning/shooting an M16 I cannot give an opinion on those 2 extractors.

However I cannot for the life of me fathom why the Remington extractor would not function just fine for you. It has been around, with a proven record for longer than I have. :D

I replaced one Rem bolt with Pacific and they used M-16 extractor worked great. When I have bolt face open on a Rem gunsmith uses a Sako extractor other wise I'll use Rem extractor.

The Remington extractor breaks far more often than other brands. No doubt it is one of the 700's weak points. But that is still practically none. From what I've gathered you are probably better off just leaving it as is. You'll most likely never have a problem and if you do it is an easier fix than replacing what came from the factory.
