extended firing pin for 686?

I have a new 686 with an action job (with original springs) for IDPA competitions. It fails to fire very ocassionally (strain screw is tight) with winchester white box . I bought an extended firing pin from Cylinder and Slide. Any down side to installing this. The package says that I should always use snap caps with the extended firing pin.
Thanks in advance for opinions.

I've not installed one in a 686, but I've put them in several of my newer N frame S&W revolvers.

They may take a bit of minor fitting, but the end result is great.

Good Luck...

Joe
