Is it a real ASP baton? I just did a search and saw them going for as much as $189.00, wow.
I've got a cheaper replica of that design, and I ended up lubing mine with silicone spray that I use everywhere. I hate WD-40 for lubrication, since it actually stands for Water Displacement 40th attempt. It was origionally intended to dry water out of electronics quicker while preventing corrosion. It kinds SUCKS as a lubricant because of how fast it dries and then starts to collect dust. Here's some more info on it.
If it's a true ASP, do NOT lube it! It will not stay extended in use if you do! You can clean the extended segments with alcohol, etc., and that should do it. If not, return it to ASP for repair.
There are some things out there that might help. You could try washing it and getting your greasy hand prints off of it. Or the greasy hair balm from your last victim then rub it down with rubbing alcohol.
You can boil it in water and let it dry, it will because it is hot.
But like the Captain mentioned, send it to the maker. If all else fails read the instructions that came with it.
yeah do not use any kind of lube on it, just clean it and wipe it dry. lube will just attract sand dust and then will just be grimey and may not function properly. ASP will repair or replace free of charge any baton from normal use. www.asp-usa.com 920-735-6242. You can adjust the clip (pinch closer) to help it release quicker, you may also have some grime between the shafts you can try cleaning inside there too.
