Experts on HK Expert 9mm

I just bought a 9mm HK Expert and fired around 100 rnds at 25m using factory rounds - Fiocchi 123gn rnd nose. I was lucky to hit the target at all. I am not that bad of a shot, anyway other members of my club had a shot - also same result. Shot the gun at 10m - got 'keyholes' \ tumbling bullets. Later inspection revealed a lot of lead fouling near the end of the barrel but was still had its mirror finish towards the start of the barrel. Does anyone know why the bullet is not picking up the rifling from the start? Has anyone had similar experiences with the Fiocchis? Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try some reloads to see if it was restricted to only these rnds. Also does the polygonal rifling like any particular types of bullets or are they happy with all types? Thanking all for your replies.

I thought that the Expert was chambered for .45 only. You sure you don't have a USP 9mm Fullsize or Compact???

"inspection revealed a lot of lead fouling near the end of the barrel..."

I carry the .40usp Variant 7 on duty, so I'm somewhat familiar with them.

Yes, the USP's (all varieties) have polygonal barrels. Ergo, shooting non-jacketed bullets can cause problems. Clean your barrel, get some jacketed ammo, and start over.

And are you sure you don't have a 9mm Full Size? HK's website lists the Tactical, Match, and Expert in .45acp only. Did the guy at the gun store tell you the full size was the "expert" model? It's not. The expert has a longer barrel/slide with a special o-ring bushing, ambidextrous control levers, adjustable sights, and an adjustable trigger stop.

Do you have these? If not, you don't have an Expert. You just have one of the toughest, most reliable 9mm's made. Enjoy it! BVT
