Experiences with SAR-1?

Do any of you own a Century Arms SAR-1. What are your experiences as to accuracy and reliability. How is the Wolf ammo in 7.62x39mm?

Ron,
A buddy of mine has a SAR-1 and so far it has performed flawlessly and accurace is fair, about 4 inches at 50 yards with open sights. I can't say for sure that it was a Century import however. You'll probably want to check around on the AK forum, some models do not have properly heat treated hammers. Imports now have to have a certain percentage of US parts & a few importers have really cut corners.

Wolf ammo is ok. One thing to watch, in the 7.62x39 they offer it loaded with actual copper jacketed bullets & with the By-Metal eastern block bullets. Naturally by-metal is much cheeper & fine for plinking with a AK or SKS.
Out of my 7.62x39 Ruger MKII the Copper jacked bullets perform fairly well, producing 2 1/2 to 3 inch groups at 100 yards. I've had no mis-fires or problems with this gun.

However, my mini 30 suffered many a mis-fire due to the hard primers. Thus, it has returned to a Federal & reload diet.
I don't shoot the by-metal out of my American guns. Just don't like the idea of forcing steel through steel. k

Shot a friends's SAR-1 recently. IT shot well and cycled fine, but had two minor problems:

1. trigger snap - the trigger liked to snap forward and sting your finger. I understand this is easily fixed.

2. MAgazine release finicky. Mine took a few hits from a file at the dealer before it would unlatch smoothly.

Otherwise, it is a basic, vanilla AK.

I do. Its good. I get @2-3 inches at 100 yards...some get better some get less. Wolf ammo is about the best for accuracy and about the dirtiest as well ( go figure) over all a great deal! See aimsurplus.com for some of the best deals on SAR-1 rifles, mags , ammo.

happy shooting

i you want to have alot of fun with you ak, get a kobra red-dot sight - comes w/3 reticles - its a russian holosight. it slips right onto the sight rail on the left side of the receiver. don't mount optics on a rib attached to the topcover.

if they are marked SAR-1, they were imported by century arms who wholesaled them out. there should be a marking "CIA" on the side.

wolf makes good but dirty ammo, personally i prefer pmp from south africa, they use brass cases
