In the next few weeks or months I may be in the market for a big bore revolver. Sorta liking what I see on Ruger web site and Super Red Hawk .454s - particularly having the .45 Long Colt ammo option.
I have have not ruled out .44 mag. or Ruger's new .480, but the .454 looks to be somewhat more versatile and is not that much more expensive in Ruger product line. I have several other handguns, do not currently reload and probably would not shoot this one a great deal. Primary purpose to be (1) plinking/practice, (2) hiking/camping in Colo. bear country, (3) possibly for infrequent feral hog hunting in Tejas.
For the sake of "compactness", I am leaning toward the 7 1/2" barrel and would likely not put a scope on the gun, at least not in the forseeable future. Comments in the next week or so will be appreciated.
