Experience w/ PT145Ti? 17 oz, 10+1 .45ACP...

Hi all-

I was browsing over the week end and found this Taurus model, a very compact model (about 6.5"x 4.25"), 17 oz, polymer/Titanium, .45 ACP, with 10 + 1 rounds.

I was impressed by the specs but I am wondering how it shoots. Does anyone have experience w/ it? How bad is the recoil/ controllability?

Thanks in advance- mckysdad

How much money did it cost? I have seen this on the web, but wondered what the final price would be. You have probably seen one of the first ones out.

mckysdad:

The milleniums look great but there are so many other great guns out there that will serve you far better. I sold my PT-140 (at a good loss) and bought a G-27. Taurus has mags on backorder for months. The triggers are really stiff and gritty and although mine came back from service with a very good action it cost me $30 to ship it. They only come with one mag so when you add a mag to the trigger job and the headhache off shipping it and the 3 week turn around you can get a Glock for about the same money and have a far better gun. Look at Kahr or Sigs also. Sorry Taurus I tried.

This gun may carve out a relatively unique niche...a 17 oz .45 caliber that is highly rust resistant...nearly a pocket gun in weight, but with a full power punch. I do not know of any gun that could carry that firepower (10 rounds of .45) at that weight and size.

It *might* make a really good backup gun, or a "hot weather concealed carry" gun. But I don't know how much it costs, or how well it works. I hope it gets a good, objective review somewhere...

Sorry - I meant I was browsing the web... It shows on Taurus' web site but the price is tba. I also think it might be a cool niche gun - but - if it is as bad as Gary describes it, it would not be worth it...

Gary - when you got it back - was it your feeling that the trigger ended up being how it should have been, or did they do a special job because you complained?

Thanks in advance, mckysdad

The barrel on this weapon is only about 3 inches or so, right? Wouldn't the round lose too much velocity to be effective, unless you wanted to shoot +Ps (but in a 17 oz. pistol . . . no thanks!)?

First of all, being a former Millenium owner but at the same time, liking Taurus' revos, I have to say stay away. The Milleniums are basically crap, with very few exceptions. You're right, it sounds neat as could be, if they'd only meak it reliable and make the trigger pleasant. BTW, don't expect to see them for at least 6 months.

Thanks a lot, Frontsight! and Gary-

after your very negative assessments, I won't touch it. Thanks for averting a disappointment!

Take care all- mckysdad

If it shoots as good as my PT-111, they can keep it!! This gun shoots a 12 ga. size pattern 5 feet low at 20 feet!! NO S#%&!!!!
I can THROW 115 grn. bullets better! I have always LOVED Taurus revolvers, but my PT-111 is a fine work of art. I guess i'm gonna keep it. My wife bought it for me for x-mas.
Thank God she never asks why I always carry one of my other handguns!
