My friend, who is getting married in august will be moving to toronto, ontario. He currently doesn't own a gun, but goes shooting with me on sundays whenever he can. He is 20, but will be 21 in october. I told him he can buy a rifle or shotgun, but would have to wait until he was 21 to get a pistol. Anyways I told him that guns are basically illegal in canada.

What is the real deal with canada, and what are his chances to get a gun.

Sidenote: you only have to be 18 to be able to purchase alchohol in canada, but guns???????

The Laws in Canada are very Differant then the USA, as long as the Person is Over 18 years of age and has passed the Required Course(s) and Applied for and recieved his Firearms License then he Can Purchase Firearms. if he took the Restricted Weapons Course then he can Purchase Handguns Also.

The Average Length of time to get a Firearms License is 90 days from the Date of Application.

Here is the Goverment Web Page explaining all the rules and Regulations of Canadian Gun Ownership. it isn't as bad as it sounds either :)
